Great article which again confirms the Church does not have a problem with tattoos. Encouraging. This addresses tattoos and the Catholic Church’s position:

Why is a female having a tattoo on her lower back considered sinful (in your eyes)?Tattoos can be respectful and appropriate but others can be sinful ( such as the female lower back tattoo)
I don’t know about nationally, but at least in my neck of the woods, CUF is fronted with schismatics and persons advocating heresy. (Some sede vaticanists, some anti-magisterium, quite a few anti-V-II.)This addresses tattoos and the Catholic Church’s position:

Also, tatoo
Jeff
That is this definition of tattoo.Especially since searching for tattoo on Vatican.va turned up little other than biblical quotes.
One item in:
SYNODUS EPISCOPORUM
SPECIAL ASSEMBLY FOR AFRICA
OF THE SYNOD OF BISHOPS
10 April-8 May 1994
mentions them as traditional communication.
Wow! Those are amazing! Wish I wasn’t such a whimp. I’d love to get a tatoo. Guess I’ll have to stick with the henna ones. The Church has no teaching against tattoos. There are no Bible references that apply to Christians that forbid them. The idea of contracting hepatitis is rather silly if one is getting the tattoo in the Unites States from a reputible shop.

IMO it would be considered sinful -as those type of tattoos are more often than not meant to direct attention to that part of the body, Usually as such one would have to be wearing very revealing clothes to have the tattoo visible. Why is a female having a tattoo on her lower back considered sinful (in your eyes)?
Not really a tattoo issue as much as a clothing issue. Many people have tattoos that they do not show off all the time. For instance, a man or woman may have a full back piece, but unless he or she is wearing a swimsuit (or if shirtless in the case of the man), nobody will see it.IMO it would be considered sinful -as those type of tattoos are more often than not meant to direct attention to that part of the body, Usually as such one would have to be wearing very revealing clothes to have the tattoo visible.
as a young Man I have a very hard time with temptation and impure thoughts and boy those tattoos dont really help
maybe not so much sinful as a near occasion of sin![]()
I’m glad I could help…and, I didn’t expect you to agree, but I’m okay with that. If you agreed, then you would be Catholic.Thanks. That was informative. I now understand, (but don’t agree with) the reasoning.
Don’t call yourself a wimpWow! Those are amazing! Wish I wasn’t such a whimp. I’d love to get a tatoo. Guess I’ll have to stick with the henna ones.

The verse has nothing to do with religious tattoos. Here it is, from the NASB:This discussion just came up at work, because several ladies at work have them. I work in the medical field, and everyone, even the girls that have them, quote the Leviticus scripture. However, I agree that if tattoos were wrong, so is our eating pork. Those were old test. laws.
However, one of the girls said that she read in the Bible where it says that you should not get religious tattoos or markings on your body??? If you are going to get one, I would believe that religious art is what you would want to get, and not anything demonic.
Personally, I don’t see anything wrong with them if they are done in moderation. There is nothing wrong with consuming alcohol either, it’s when we abuse things. That what makes it wrong. That goes for anything. When you do that, you are making that item a god, so to speak.
Can anyone tell me where she might have gotten this reference to religious tatoos?
Thanks,

Lev 19:28 'You shall not make any cuts in your body for the dead nor make any tattoo marks on yourselves: I am the LORD.
This was in reference to the popular pagan tradition at the time of tattooing oneself or cutting oneself to appease their gods or ancestors.Lev 19:28 ‘You shall not make any cuts in your body for the dead nor make any tattoo marks on yourselves: I am the LORD.’
Although this was in regards to circumcision you get the point.Romans 3:26-29 (26) So if the uncircumcised man keeps the requirements of the Law, will not his uncircumcision be regarded as circumcision? (27) And he who is physically uncircumcised, if he keeps the Law, will he not judge you who though having the letter of the law and circumcision are a transgressor of the Law? (28) For he is not a Jew who is one outwardly, nor is circumcision that which is outward in the flesh. (29) But he is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision is that which is of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the letter; and his praise is not from men, but from God.
never deface the body of christ… yet repuration of sins are granted, mourne not for the dead because that is gods business, upon yourself you should not have any personal markings, but in the old days (a harsh way of putting it) self punishment in the name of the father is accepted, lady of the town fatima said that.I had a discussion with someone the other day about tattoos. I see alot of men and women with tattoos and even some Catholic school children with tattoos and I told this friend that I feel this practice is wrong and he happens to have a tattoo also, but he got it years ago.
I did a search in the Holy Scripture and actually found proof that it is wrong. The Bible states:
"You shall not make any gashes in your flesh for the dead or tattoo any marks upon you, I am the Lord.-- Lev 19:28
Very interesting.
