Tattoos? Are they a sin?

Well looks like more in favor than not! I believe to many people judge others on looks and attitudes which really should not be done. I dont believe because i have a mark on me its bad all mine represent something to me and if they dont like it to bad. I also ride a badd ol bike and like the biker lifestyle another area frowned on. Well to darn bad! You dont like dont look. I love my God and fully accept Jesus for dying on the cross for my sins. I know i wont be tossed on my keyster because of it either.

I would not get a tattoo of anything magical (like a symbol of protection), which is associated with another religion.

There are present-day Druids who display all sort of Norse runes and that is obviously not appropriate for a Christian unless you want to be mistaken for a pagan.

There many beautiful Christian symbols that you can tattoo, which will proudly display your faith
 
Ok. My two cents worth. When I see a tattoo. I instantly think that the person was or is shouting"look at me! Look at me! I am so cool and er different"

"Me me me me me me me . Nothing but me. "

I don’t think it is always and everywhere sinful and in certain cases such as religious imagery is surely ok.

Nevertheless Tatoos are often just plain old vanity and pride. What’s worse is they can become addictive - like piercing.

Anyway I am not judging for the most part 😉 . Just letting you know my instinctive reaction is one of :rolleyes:
 
A few years ago I noticed a lot of damaged people started coming to our church, poor, on welfare, mulltiple divorces, single moms, people with drug histories, so I started to let my hair grow. If a hurting person comes to a church and sees everyone buttoned up and looking perfect they’re likely to turn around before giving it a chance. I let my hair grow so at least one person would look like a wierdo, hoping they would feel like they could connect with someone and give our church a chance. The same is true of tattoos. People will stay where they feel comfortable, where they will feel accepted. If people have a sleeve or ink on their neck it has no effect on their ability to minister to others or the depth of their faith.
 
I have two tattoos which are mostly hidden but I can show them if I want to. One is small and barely noticeable but the other is about the size of my hand yet still easily covered. I have been thinking about getting two doves on my chest (not on the actual err… chest part, but above) would that be bad considering that doves are religious imagery? It would only be visible if I wore a vest top or wide-neck t-shirt/blouse.

You could say the same about any artist, or musician though too. Especially these praise singers. Are they not trying to draw attention to themselves? how bout a guy in a buisness suit. They are not called power ties for nothing. 🤷
 
I have four tattoos. Every single one of them is covered unless I want them to be shown. I get them in places specifically so they can be covered if necessary.

I’m sure others have said it, but if we hold to the “your body is a temple” thing, then no piercings, no makeup, no hair cutting, no shaving, no hair dyeing or anything else that can be done to a person’s body.

Since when does everything in our lives have to be about religion? Yes, we are spiritual and all that. However, there are a lot of things I must do in a day that have nothing to do with my faith. I have to work. I don’t have a religious job. I even, gasp, watch some things on TV that have nothing to do with spirituality.

Dude, as long as the tattoo isn’t sacrilegious, go right ahead. You’ll find that most people outside of this forum don’t hold the same views.

His question was answered a while ago, no harm in getting the whole tattoos and sin debate going again. There are several topics on here which constantly resurface and this is one of them. 😛
