At the risk of this sliding further off track…Nobody is forced to be an American. Part of being a citizen of this country, especially for men over 18, is that we know we can be called upon to defend our freedoms.

Calling it slavery is like the mindset of those who consider abortion as the choice. No, sex was the choice, pregnancy is the natural, possible consequence of your choice. Similarly, in your choice to be an American citizen, the possibility of having to defend our country is a consequence we all know about.
We may all know about it, but it’s a consequence that does NOT apply to everyone. If more politician’s children were scheduled to go to Iraq, “we” would be out of there faster than you could blink. Presidents would think twice about declaring war if there was a chance their children would be in the middle of it.

Everyone in Iraq volunteered. No one is forced to join the service. Too many people enlist for the wrong reasons. The military is not a jobs program. It is not a scholarship program. Those are the benefits for swearing to follow the orders of the commander in chief.

I think a couple people might have missed the point with the letter. The idea is that if people freak out about an 18 year old getting pictures drawn on their skin (possible butterflies or flowers) then why is it OK for a 13 year old to have SEX and KILL her baby??? The point is that abortion is more seroius, permanent and damaging than tattoos, so having people not supports tattoos but suport abortion is very, very stupid. Tatoos are silly, but I’d rather be worrying that my kid is going to get a tattoo than worry that my kid can get an abortion without me being able to stop them. Don’t get me started on contreception distribution to kids…

That is how I read this too and a valid point.

I wonder why no one has ever sued a family planning clinic for prescribing contraceptives to minors (in states with no laws explicitly granting minors the right to consent). Well, that is the subject of another thread.
