Little Eagle,
WOW, this is an old thread! LOL. Thanks for chiming in, though. I’ve pointed out this same fact on other threads (and maybe even this one, too, though I can’t recall). It’s part of the old Mosaic Law, which is not the same as the Moral Law that endures through the ages. If we still followed that code, we couldn’t pork ribs, and all women would have to leave town for one week out of the month!
Something worth considering, of course, is the issue of modesty. Some people get tattoos out of vanity, others (like you) out of rememberance, others, I suppose, because they just like to look at them. And the subject matter is of importance, also. Scantily-clad women, curse words, satanic symbols, etc., are always illicit.

Sorry for bumping an old thread guys, but I think something is worth noting…
Leviticus also says “Do not wear clothing woven of two kinds of material”, “Do not cut the hair at the sides of your head or clip off the edges of your beard” mentioned in the same passage. Having a tattoo (which itself is a series of holes not a laceration) is not against one of the 10 commandments… do all Christians have untamed beards? Does the Pope himself? What are all of your clothes made of? A tattoo, or one in memory of the dead is no worse than those.
I’m fine with my discreet Roman numeral tattoo commemorating the loss of my brother, just as the Pope is fine with shaving his facial hair or any Christian wearing clothing not made of just one material is fine with that. I’m a Catholic not a Jew. Its in the same league as wearing a polyester shirt, not murder.

No beard or unclipped side hair either.
