Greetings all! I just joined. waves
I am 37 and desperately want a tattoo. I have only seen one reference to tattoos in The Bible. I was wanting a small 2.5x2.5 inch tattoo.
What are your views?
Thank you in advance for your time and consideration

Hi sunshine;

I don’t think there is a problem with tattoos. I know, though, that the Bible states that we shouldn’t ‘defile’ our bodies. I am 39, and have always wanted a small one, like on my ankle. The thing that has always stopped me, is I’m tentative that tattoo parlors are hygenic. It’s just my thing–scared about diseases, etc. The other thing that makes me leary, is that once I’m 85, it might look a wee bit funny.

But, maybe others have a Catholic perspective on it. I’m Catholic, but not familiar with anything in our CCC that would prevent you from getting one. (but don’t quote me) What pic do you have in mind??? 🙂

In the Old Testament (Leviticus) there are many “rules”, including the one about not defiling our bodies.

However, there are also many other rules that say that new mothers are unclean for 7 days, and that we’re not to eat unclean animals such as shellfish and pork. (And I LOVE me some bacon! ;))

We are no longer bound to these laws because Jesus came to fulfill them.

I have two tats of my own and would like to get another. :o

I think the bigger issue is what the tattoo is of. If it is depicting something evil, or creates scandal among those who see it (nudity), then I think it would be more of an issue. But I have seen many beautiful, Christian tattoos…

Maybe our resident KCtheMommy will come on here and show you hers! 🙂

To Whatever girl: You won’t have to wait til age 85 before a tatoo will look wierd on you-try about 45! Whenever I see a young woman with a tatoo I feel sorry for her, knowing the regret she will feel in a few years. Just my opinion…

There are a number of other threads (old ones) that have discussed this issue as well… if you don’t get many answers here, you may want to do a search for “tattoo” on the forums and hopefully you’ll find what you’re looking for. 👍

I didn’t think of that! You’re probably right. I wouldn’t say the same for men. There goes that good ole double standard again, right?😛 I see some men in their 50’s and 60’s with tattoos and it somehow looks honorable. 🤷

I like KCtheMommy’s tattoos…they looks quite lovely on you, KC!!!🙂

I have a tattoo of the Jerusalem Cross on the top of my right foot to remind me of a pro-life crusade I did a couple years ago. I love it 🙂 It’s a great evangelization tool because people are always asking what it is/means. As others have said, as long as the subject matter isn’t questionable, it’s all good.

If you want it, get it!

Just remember, getting it off is a lot harder than having it tatted. Therefore, choose your art wisely.

🙂 hi fbl9 here. personally a tatoo should have some meaning to the wearing. myself i got myself inked up a few years back i had a tatoo done of my farm tractor. i thought it was an expression of who i was. now that i have been awakened to who i am meant to be it seems more of a reminder of how selfish and proud i was. i am sorta against religious tatoos because they draw the question of why to atract(sic) people to one or are they simply a decroration. may God help us amen.🙂

I see nothing worng with tattoos unless there is questionable subject matter, as others have said. I have long wanted to get a dove, but I’m in the middle of losing weight (50 lbs by the time I’m done) and wanted the fluctuations to stop. Plus, they’re coming out in a couple of years with new pigments that break up under one laser treatment if you were to ever need to get it removed, and I plan to wait for these new pigments if I ever do decide to get one.

I’m pushing 45 and no regrets yet… in fact, I’m really thinking about adding #3.

I’ve had a few inks over the years. I don’t regret any of them. I do agree with most here that you should consider what you pick.
I’m pushing 50 and mine still look good on me !!! 👍

I have a panda tattoo. ❤️ I waited till my 30th birthday to get one. Only because I have always wanted one, but wanted to be really sure about what I was putting on my body for the rest of my life.

I have a Sacred Heart tattoo in addition to flowers, swallows, and Celtic/tribal work. I have not regretted any of them.

Mine too. I am so sorry that I am a tattooed old lady (nearing 50). It completely impacts the way I dress now. So many lovely feminine frocks and blouses I wish I could wear will look ridiculous and when the weather is hot, I feel compelled to still cover up. I totally regret it!

i got my tattoo when i was 18. i wanted what i had, which is the independent truck company symbol if anyone is “hip” to know what that is only i redrew it, since i was 12 since i was a skateboarder. now i don’t really want it anymore, even though it’s at a place where i don’t really notice it. so, think really really really hard about what you are going to get and if you REALLY want it for the rest of your life.

on a side note: ifeel bad for those girls that get tattoos on their lower backs of something generic. it might look good now, but when they are 70 it’s just going to be wrinkled up and funny looking…

That’s why I’m getting the F word tattooed on my lower back.
