i know the tax system might be different between the usa and australia. Well its tax time in australia and i did my tax yesterday with a accountant i always go to every year. My problem is that every year i pay alot of tax because i have term deposits with the bank(money locked away for a certain amount of time and then the bank would give me some money: example 100,000 locked away for 6 months on 5%).

I always pay my tax. but my accountent just like everyone else will try to lower my tax to pay a little bit less. This year I didn’t have a reciept for working boots/shoes because i used the same boots as last year and he added in boots for $80 which was what he added for last years tax. I said to him i dont have a reciept for it and he said that ok as long as you dont claim over a certain amount. the goverenment dont ask you for reciepts for thing like this.

boots $80 and he clamed me gloves for the freezer $15 which i didn’t buy. They are not 100% deductable i only save a little bit of paying tax.

would this be a grave sin for me i dont think this is tax evaion because i am not going over the limit allowed but i dont know how to think about this problem as sinful or not sinful. grave ir just venial

Isolated minor cheating is a venial sin. That’s what you’re doing.

Persistent minor cheating is a grave sin, because someone who does that has crossed the line from casual sloppiness to deliberate intent. That’s what your accountant is doing.

You know the deductions are false. Take them off. Including these is very different from someone making a “best guess” honest estimate of legitimate items for which they’ve lost the receipts.

Luke 16:10 The person who is trustworthy in very small matters is also trustworthy in great ones; and the person who is dishonest in very small matters is also dishonest in great ones.

And get yourself a new accountant.

In Australia you can get 5% on your savings account? I’m moving my money over there. 😃

In the states, you’re lucky to get 1%.

i dont know how to take them. the accountant does it for me and tell’s me how much to pay. what he did was use some of last years information because i didn’t have much to claim.

He gave me a copy of the tax thing he fill out for me and all it has is total of deductions it doesn’t say boots $80, gloves 15. just total. it had tax expenses 105. but i only paid $90.

I did tell him stationery and told him to make a guess because i am always loosing poens at work.

I dont know if i should take holy communion or not. this is my problem once again at the end of another week.

For you this was a minor sin, and minor sins do not need to be formally confessed and absolved before receiving Holy Communion. Continuing nexy year to use the services of an accountant who knowingly cheats on your tax return would be a bigger sin.

Speaking as an American Certified Public Accountant, I can tell you that what your accountant did - inventing false deductions - was just flat wrong. For a CPA that’s an offense which can cause him to lose his license. Sure, what he did on your return was a small fraud, but like any lie each time he does it just makes it easier for him to commit bigger frauds on future returns.

Has he already filed the return?

If so, there’s not much you can do now for this year. If the difference in the tax bill is significant, you could file an amended return. If the difference is small, it probably woud cost both you and the government more to correct the return than than the amount they would collect. To make amends you could either donate the extra refund to the church, or intentionally omit the value of those deductions from next year’s return.

If he has NOT yet filed the return, tell him to fix it NOW! It’s your return, not his. When you sign it your are testifying on a legal document that the information is correct to the best of your knowledge. You have a responsibility to present the information accurately, and he has an obligation to follow the law.

well i dont think it’s significant. I have already signed the forms. but before i went to him i recieved a bill to say i have to pay an amount because i have term deposits which made me money but have not paid tax on them which is why i recieved the bill. Because of this he told me to pay what he said and that he will send the new amount that i owe information that he told me to pay to the tax man and told me to pay it and told me to call him when I do so he can lodge it to the gov.

However i do know that you can claim upto $300 in deductions without a receipt. example i clam laundry $150 and i did that with other accounts as well. no receipt there but i know what you mean its lying.

so as i pay it he will through the internet tell the gov my new amount i have to pay so he may have already done it. and then when i pay the amount he told me he will then lodge the forms.
