Let me give another example: If I hop on a plane to Iran today to preach the gospel in the streets of Tehran, and end up dead for it, leaving my family fatherless (hypothetical, i don’t have kids yet) … I’m pretty sure Jesus will not approve, even though martyrdom and preaching the gospel are generally considered good things.
How about if my family is starving, and I cannot provide the income needed to supply their need.
But I could provide them the money by killing other people for money.

I know it is really far out there, but it highlights what I am thinking here.

Do we really want to claim the duty to provide for the family overrides morality?

I do not think so.

No, I would not take her there, I would drive her around and talk to her about what she is planning to do. Yes I would risk my job. I would take her to a pro-life clinic and I would wait for her and take her home. That would be my ministry for the day and after. I would believe that God gave her to me to shepherd and that the baby inside her is going to live. I would pray a lot. And I would show her the love of Christ, as opposed to the staffers at abortion clinics who say they are helping but are really just after the money and getting the client out as soon as possible. I would tell her about my sister who had an abortion and has been deeply and tragically affected, and how much it broke my heart as well. This is not a theoretical question for me, though.

As someone who has done sidewalk counseling at Planned Parenthood, it breaks my heart when I talk to a mother getting ready to go in to that killing center, and I seem to reach her, but she still goes in. Every once in a while, God gives me an opportunity and access to a young woman and I hope i reach her. There is no guarantee however. I have given a couple of these young women my phone number - so far, they haven’t called. I would put a lot on the line if I knew that a baby could be saved.

No, you can’t kill innocent people to provide for your family. And you shouldn’t do something immoral to provide for your family either. I agree with those things completely.

I know I wouldn’t be the receptionist at an abortion clinic, and I wouldn’t drive a friend to an abortion clinic to get an abortion, and I wouldn’t let them use my phone to make an appointment with an abortionist. If I worked for the electric company, and they sent me to the abortion clinic to fix their electricity… I hope I would refuse.

Would you also refuse to drive the receptionist to work at the abortion clinic, if your taxi job was on the line? Would you refuse to drive the janitor to work at the abortion clinic after hours when it is closed? Would you refuse to work for a taxi company as a call dispatcher that had a policy of driving people anywhere they want to go, even abortion clinics? I’m just not sure where to draw the line.

But, after this thread I think and hope I would refuse to drive the woman to the clinic. Although if we were already most of the way there, I’m not sure where I would drop her off.

If I were a cab driver, I’d have a list of crisis pregnancy centers in my cab and all their numbers on my cell phone. Many of them are open only about half the day but if there is an emergency they will open for an abortion-minded woman or they know of a referral. Preparation would be the key. I know abortion centers prefer if a mother has someone with her to take her home but they do allow cabs to deliver and pick up from the clinic. Just shows how little they really care - what if the women hemorrhages in the cab?

You make some good points above. Thanks for pointing them out.
As for her money - If I took her somewhere other than her requested destination, or if she asked to be put out, I would not charge her at all, so she would retain her funds.
As to safety, I believe that in one of my posts I did mention that she should be put out someplace safe, not just dumped by the side of the road, so to speak.

In the end we obviously have differing views on what would be right and proper.

Again, you don’t know how much money she has. If her destination is closer than the pro life clinic, she may not have enoughto get back, even if you didn’t charge her. Further more, you may know it’s a safe area, but she may not. This presents a problem. She has no reason to trust you. You took her to someplace she didn’t ask to go against her will. You tell her it’s safe and you assume she will have enough money to get back. What if she had only enough to get to the clinic and was planning on meeting someone there to get a ride back. Again, she really may not have enough to get back home. And waiting for her may scare her more.

These are all legitimate points. As with all such scenerio’s there are a thousand different permutaions and “what-if’s” that can be proposed. The OP supplied us with a very basic situation and decision - deliver her and keep your job, or not deliver her and lose your job. My answer stems from that basic scenerio.
Other permutations might just have to be dealt with “on-the-fly”, as the saying goes.
