Thank you for your votes, you can go home now, we will get you all riled up again in 2012. In the meantime, just send us some money and rest . Sincerely, The GOP.

What would you have them do?

Anything connected to abortion would get killed in the Senate or vetoed by the president, so what would be the point of doing it?

The GOPniks have to tread a razors’ edge in the next Congress. They won’t be able to do much, but they have to do something, else the Democrat-fatigue that lifted them into place this time will change sign in two years. They need to fix the economy for that not to happen. That will take all their newfound power.

Getting into a fight they can’t win over abortion now will ruin their chances to do something meaningful about it next cycle.

Yes, it’s nasty, but that’s democracy.

God Bless and ICXC NIKA

They just spent a year fighting everything anybody tried to do to get the country out of the worst recession in decades and now they have to tread lightly?

And if the GOP brings up abortion now it will ruin their chances in 2012? How does that mesh with the fact that they were victorious in 2010 because of the pro-life faction?

It seems like they like the pro-life votes but don’t like the pro-life policy.

I suggest that they help balance the budget by implementing a $2000 per abortion surtax.

Or maybe $20,000 per, after all, it’s a large deficit we’re trying to close.

Now that sounds GREAT to me. If it could happen.

Too bad it would never clear the Senate.

It would never get to the senate because the house will be controlled by the republicans and they won’t introduce anything like that since they are giving notice to the pro-lifers to be quiet until the next election cycle.

Its clear that the republicans don’t want to do anything to help the country until they dispose of Obama. So don’t hold your breath about any abortion issues, unless it concerns lower taxes for the rich abortion doctors.

I thought the goal was to end abortion, but apparently, like I’ve always said, the Republicans have other plans (always have, always will) and only use the Christian vote to get into power by claiming to love human life and being against abortion. Now, they’re sitting in their smoke-filled back rooms saying, “SUCKERS!”

Actually they are probably on the way to the Caribbean to soak up some sun before figuring out how to make the middle class on the right feel even more indignant about letting tax cuts for the rich expire.

They are after all pragmatic and don’t really give a hoot about abortion, as a matter of fact they don’t want it ever outlawed or they will have to figure out some other way to get votes from the mushroom constituency . They never want this to be a states rights issue because they will then lose their grip on the national electorate.

They don’t even have to really do any work to get the anti-abortion votes and they don’t have to show any results either.

Yes, exactly. I’ve been saying this for years and have been told that I’m just giving an excuse to vote for a “pro-abortion” candidate. Nonsense! I just find everything that the Republican party stands for to be loathsome and anti-Christian. That doesn’t mean that I love the Democratic party. Far from it. I just don’t find the Democrats hypocritically talking about how they’re holier than everyone else by pretending to take a moral stance on an issue that Catholics will pay attention to (abortion), which is exactly what the Republican do.

I’m guessing he watches FOX news because there is very little on there that is Jesus’ centric and that is the Republican channel of record after Rush.

For the most part, I watch what’s going on in Sacramento, being a public employee in California and all. When it comes to national issues, I don’t pay close attention, but I do keep abreast to what’s going on in general from multiple sources, some of which include Sacramento Bee’s website, news radio, stories I come across here, and the like. I don’t have my own TV and usually watch shows on netflix or hulu.

When I did have my own TV, before I became Catholic and left Republicanism (as a result of reading Catholic teachings, believe it or not), I watched RNC-TV dba FOX News, and listened to Rush Limbaugh. Funny how when I stopped watching and listening to such things and looked around a bit wider, I saw how wrong they were.

Um…wow. I’m hurt. 😦

…and here I thought you were a reasonable person who checked before they posted.

I have tried to find something on this letter in the news. Has anyone seen this letter on any news source? I have tried a search and could not find anything.

I am specifically interest in the identity of “tea party activists”. Something about this strikes me more as a rumor than fact.

Thanks for responding. I like the old TV shows on Netflix and Hulu:thumbsup:. Funny how when I started my reversion back to the Church which included a great range of studies pertaining to Church documents, history, theology, scripture, apologetics, etc…, it also took me to the other end of the political spectrum but not the one you ended with. You’ve an apparent dislike for FOX much like I have with the Democratic Party medias;). Have a nice weekend:). Bambi beware.

Welcome home LCMS!

Thanks.

Two things I note here. First, abortion is not mentioned. Second, there are only a minority of states represented and most of those are only a small group within that state. This looks like a ploy of a few tea party people to address their own special interest.

Sorry guys, but you handful do not represent any “mandate”. I even wonder if this is primarily a pro-homosexual statement at heart. Who know and who cares. Not one of these is a Congressman. I wonder if they also want to see the United States ignore any mililtary threat or foreign affairs crisis. I do not think so.

I haven’t posted anything in a long time, but this asinine statement made my blood boil.

The Tea Party is what saved the Republican party from becoming Democrat-Lite. My wife and I are politcal activists. Abortion was not shied away from in any discussion, and Glenn Beck’s rally at the mall (we were there) showcased some of America’s most outspoken Pro-Life activists, like Dr. Alveda King (the niece of Dr. MLK). I watched November 2nd as our Congressional candidate lost by less than 1,000 votes to a pro-choice incumbent. Keith Fimian has never been a politician. Catholic and Pro-Life (his brother is a priest in our diocese), this businessman was everything we wanted, yet many Catholics actually hid under the excuse that Republicans want to eliminate seniors’ programs.

Democrats are the one’s forever trying to expand abortion. Republican are the one’s who filibuster attempts to do so. Republicans are the one’s who watch their laws restricting abortions get blocked by judges appointed by Democrats before the ink from the signature is even dry. Catholics who vote against pro-life candidates by claiming they are not pro-life are guilty of grave scandal and will have much to answer for. I, for one, will not shy away from calling them what they are…

…liars. Liars with their own self-interests at heart.

Not all Republicans are Pro-Life. Not all Democrats are Pro-Choice, but when you want results, it’s easy to see where the efforts are being made. Even Bart Stupak caved-in when crunch time came and it was time to make a decision. Pro-Choice Republicans lost allover in their primaries.

The Tea Party is about the economy. They are not a united, autonomous group. One statement issued by one chapter does not speak for all of them. However, if they want to cut government funding and abortion gets cut with it, then they have my support. Actual restrictions will never happen with President Obama, short of a miracle. Any attempt to do so is a waste of taxpayer time and money. In the meanwhile, prayer is the best tactic.
