As a mom that has seen all my kids through Catholic grade school, I would like to chime in here. I have seen good and bad in the way teachers dress… I definitely think there should be a different code for mass days. Other than that, I really hate seeing way too tight pants on some of our female teachers, our 8th grade teacher is also the boys PE teacher and coach for track… it really annoys me to see him in sweat shirts and shorts during the regular class hours. It is fine for PE and coaching, but not for the classroom. I really think he gets away with it because he has been at the school for 25+ yrs and is the principal’s favorite teacher. My other pet peeve is new teachers that wear clothes that are not conducive to everyday life in a grade school… high heels aren’t good for chasing kids on a playground or standing up all day. Wearing suits while doing messy art projects…not a good idea. Most teachers have enough common sense to dress appropriately all on their own. I would not want to go in as a new principal and demand changes right away. Maybe you can wait to see how things go for a month or so?

Our parapros often have to do physical managements.

I just realized it might have seemed like I was arguing with you. I wasn’t. It just seemed funny to see someone else who worked at an alternative school and who knew what a paraprofessional was since I had never even heard about that job title until I applied. I work in the opportunity program for an English class, so wearing a skirt works for me.

Last year at my children’s school, the principal made the teachers wear a “uniform” of white polo and khaki pants/skirts. The teachers HATED it. I can sympathize.

This year we had a new principal who relaxed the dress code and the teachers have been wearing nice skirts, dresses, nice slacks, etc. One thing I have noticed about our new principal is he wears a suit & tie to school Mass. This, imo, has inspired the teachers to dress up nicer for school Mass than they normally did.

Gosh, I could go for this! So easy to get dressed in the morning. —KCT

Because he set an example, not told them what to wear and then wore whatever he wanted.

A neighboring Catholic school tried uniforms for the faculty. Only one person wore them. She had a model figure. Nobody else looked good in an oxford cloth shirt- long sleeved- and flat-front navy trousers.
