Wonderful.

What are the Muslims thinking? Lets take down basic human rights in the name of our religion and make violent threats against anyone who tries to stop us! That will show them that the Pope was wrong when he said Islam is violent!

The scary thing is that this is in a Western country. In an Islamic nation this is common, but now sharia is in effect being extended into Europe. It is becoming de facto law.

newbie, first post, just heading for the water cooler and got sidetracked…

I see and acknowledge a lot of the sharpness and tenor of some previous posts.

 But when you talk with and work with and share life with the muslims around you, don’t you find that the extremists are to them as those self-proclaimed christians in the north of Ireland have been to me (in Scotland) all these years?

Nota bene: I am referring only to the self proclaimed christians of all flavours who have perpetuated the troubles, not anyone else.

I do hope this reads OK, be gentle! 🙂

Stoned dog,
Not really, since you won’t find any theological basis for the Christian violence of Northern Ireland - which was very specific, mind you, unlike the theological basis for the Muslim violence against non-Muslims.

I suggest you re-read your Bible since you claim to be a Christian to see if you can find a teaching from Jesus urging Christians to kill.

When you do find one I will provide 20 verses from Muhammad urging death and destruction upon non-Muslims.

Sound fair to you?

Hasta luego,
Rodrigo

when it comes to Islam, what we call “moderate” Muslims will always side with their religious leaders…so once islamic leaders ask for a sharia in your country, moderate muslims will join them…

Injesus, thank you for the courtesy of your reply. It is much appreciated. I will think on it as I also think on the unswerving sincerity of those who perform and fund violence over the water from me.

However, in the previous post to yours being called Stoned Dog, (some joke about narcotics?) just doesn’t strike me as very funny or welcoming. Neither does the jibe about “claiming” to be a christian.

I came wanting to listen, talk and learn and I hedged my very first (and only) post with caveats. Perhaps we could all be aware that /how/ we respond to people will have a large impact on their response to us and to our faith.

I start RCIA next wednesday. I hope that the atmosphere will be a little more conducive to learning and exploring.

Hmmm, I guess I struck a nerve. You may not know that there have been at least one member who claimed to be Christian but clearly is not.

Welcome anyway and don’t take my un-Christian post to heart.

Is Free Speech a Christian value?

If so, how come not a single Christian discovered this value until the 1700’s or so?

I’m quite serious in my question. Can someone find me a Christian notion of support for free speech that predates the secular enlightenment?

Mark 6:7-12

He summoned the Twelve and began to send them out two by two and gave them authority over unclean spirits. He instructed them to take nothing for the journey but a walking stick–no food, no sack, no money in their belts. They were, however, to wear sandals but not a second tunic. He said to them, “Wherever you enter a house, stay there until you leave from there. Whatever place does not welcome you or listen to you, leave there and shake the dust off your feet in testimony against them.” So they went off and preached repentance.

Jesus is telling the deciples to allow them to have there free speach and opinion. He says to “shake the dust off your feet” and walk away. Islam says “chop off there head and walk away”. I consider this a notion for free speech from Christ.

Find us a current source from Islam that supports free speech. It isn’t necessary to go back a few centuries. Just find us an authoritative one from the last few years.

Oh, and it is so nice that you see NO PROBLEM with the fact that this guy is hiding in fear of his life for just speaking his mind. Nice religion you got there.
