How can I teach a 12 year old boy the Catechism of the Catholic Church? I have a friend who has a 12 year old son who wants me to teach him on the Catholic faith.

How should I go about introducing him to the CCC?

What about Youcat?

How should I structure the CCC for a 12 year old?

The Grade 7 curriculum is on the subject of The Apostles’ Creed. If I were you, I’d use that section of the Catechism for my own preparation, and then use the corresponding sections of the YOUCAT to instruct the boy.

Your goal for the year would be to have him memorize the Apostles’ Creed, and to be able to explain each of its tenets in his own words.

You would also want to review basic concepts with him that he should have learned in previous years, and make sure he knows how to go to Mass and how to go to Confession, as well as how to say his prayers, especially the Rosary.

I’m teaching 7th grade CCD this year and our book that we’re using is about the Church and Sacraments. We started off discussing prayer, in all its forms, and how we listen to and speak with God. We’ve also learned about St. Paul, apostolic succession, the pope, the four marks of the Church, among other various and sundry things.
Why not suggest to the boy that he enroll in CCD classes and learn from the ground up? It might end up making more sense to him if he starts at the beginning and makes an ordered progression forward.
