Teaching a CCE class

I would like to teach an 8th grade CCE class next year.
I was wondering what kind of lesson plan would be appropriate and still interesting for kids this age. I know my CCE classes at this particular church have been incredibly mind-numbing and uneducational (I learned more in 5th grade about GOD than I did before my Confirmation in 10th grade).
I want to make the class interesting and less like going to school.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! :]

At the beginning of each year, we are required to present a lesson plan based on the Diocise directives as well as the course objectives stated with our cirriculum.

Get your hands on the series you will be using, and see if the teachers guide or publisher has a scope and sequence/objectives document. THEN build your plan

check with your DRE or pastor on what texts or other resources are used in your parish, what is approved by the diocese, and what the diocese expects you to cover in 8th grade. There is probably a genera syllabus, and using that syllabus and the catechist guide you make your lesson plan. 8th grade in most textbook series covers Church history and Catholic identity. In some dioceses it also includes Confirmation preparation. Many publishers have on-line lesson plans and other resources as well. Check out the new Jr High books and catechist guides from Loyola of Chicago and Sadlier, as both have extensive on-line support and downloadable resources.
