Teaching the Way of Beauty

Artist, iconographer, and professor David Clayton discusses the importance of beauty and why as Catholics it is necessary to cultivate an appreciation for art, theology, and liturgy.

Enjoy.

Thanks TK! Wonderful!
When I go home to NM next, let’s meet for a plate of red chile enchiladas at Michael’s in Taos. 😃

Mr. David Clayton is performing a great work. Fine art, as taught in most universities, is indecipherable or offensive or meaningless. It is a cult mentality that teaches nothing is something.

Realistic illustration, including iconography, must be brought back to the faithful and casual observer. Proper design, color choices and appropriate symbols impress upon us the beauty of the sacred and allows some of us to use that creative spark to glorify Him and to acknowledge the saints. To inspire us in worship and to set our thoughts and eyes on things that elevate us, both in worship and our daily lives.

Thank you for posting this.

Beauty is subjective… to say otherwise is to deny truth. To talk about beauty as proper or appropriate is quite silly… unless you’re talking to someone with similar taste.
