Well, it was good while it lasted…

I was trying to cheer up a friend of mine just now, I pointed her to page two of this, it helped her significantly.

Prodigal wants us to take off the gloves and fight for sport. Well here goes…my daddy can beat up all your daddies! And if I hear one more dang convert use "Crossed the Tiber in
20_ _ " or “Tiber Swim Team Class of 20_ _” I’m gonna puke! Get me a barf bag! And while we’re at it all you Sarah Palin fans…your hero is a mindless moron who doesn’t have enough knowlege or experience to run a Jamba Juice stand! If I have to hear her “you betcha” quips one more time or see her wink her eye in those rectangular soccer mom phony boloney glasses I’ll ralph! And for goodness sake, if I hear one more person quote Chesterton and worship that porky Brit philosopher I’ll scream! Now bring it!

Ok, that’s good. Just thought I’d be provocative like Prodigal wanted. Now I’m going to duck for cover and like the Pink Floyd song goes “Run Like Hell!” lol

Maybe I should. You seem to have no compunction about coming on here and challenging the Catholic Church.
Actually, it’s a great way to learn. If you believe the Catholic Church is the One True Church, try to present your beliefs on a Protestant Forum site and let me know how it goes. It would be easier to start with a general mixed denomination Protestant site instead of going directly to a Reformed Forum site. Here’s a good one to start with:

After staying awake for 36 hours, I decided to attend the 8.00am Mass today to ensure that I could sleep all day before going to work in the evening. My parish got a new priest today (Hello Fr. John from India)! When he was talking to us about the Gospel, and how all the apostles gave up everything to follow Jesus, he said “the one thing we should be worried about is that none of their shouting matches and name-calling made it into the Bible.”

It makes sense. Even the apostles had to have gotten irritated sometimes, and probably at each other more often than not. So, despite divinely-inspired censoring of such events (Even Jesus lay the smack-down on Peter a couple times! :D), such a thread as this is a perfect example of how to follow Christ. ^.^

For my own two-pennies’ (name removed by moderator)ut:

All Orthodox: Schismatics. Destined for hell.
All Protestants: Schismatics. Destined for hell.
Mormons: Martians, devoid of God’s grace.
Catholics: Mary-worshipers of the most adulterous sort.
Jehovah’s Witnesses: Tie-wearing evil little cultists.
Jews: God’s chosen people…but murderers of the messiah. Death!
Me: God’s perfect little angel. :angel1:

My, my, my, heaven’s going to be a lonely place when all you losers wind up in hell. 🙂

gurneyhalleck1,
I don’t get it. Was there something wrong with what you said??

IHeartAquinas,
Hey, now, don’t forget the set-to when the apostles were dukin’ it out over who was the greatest and who was going to sit on either side of Jesus in the Kingdom. They even got their MOTHERS involved! Typical!

Jon: You are Lutheran and going to hell. I don’t like you either.
You don’t know the half of it. Those crazy LCMS Lutherans are especially bad with their kooky distinctions between altar/pulpit worship and prayer worship. Only those who believe in the “unit concept” actually get to heaven, you know.

:tsktsk:

Oh, those biddy old Jewish mothers, they’re always getting in on it with “Oy! Lookit yer son over there with that goy. He coulda been a dahktah! Instead he’s off runnin’ around with that Yeshuah bin Joseph, always up to no good I always said!”
“Ay, I’m so femished, ya don even know da haff ovit! Let me tell yew about dis weddin’ I went to, oh! It was like Bahborah Streisand’s legs! Buttah! Dis goy dey’re runnin’ wit, he can turn the watah intah wine like that! They don’t even need tah be dahktahs! They’ll make it big in Vegas, like your cousin, Vinny!”
“I spit on his memory! Ptooie! He was a disgrace and left our muddah with nothin but teahs!”

 Silly apostles!
Any relation to Moon Unit Zappa?
Was Dr. Evil a Mormon, Jehovah’s Witness, or Scientoligist? Which one has the Great Space Wizard that lives on planet Xenu?

Unit Concept? Any relation to Moon Unit Zappa?
Sometimes I truly think so. 😉

The “unit concept” is as follows:

“Church fellowship should therefore be treated as a unit concept, covering every joint expression, manifestation, and demonstration of a common faith” (Doctrinal Statements of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod, 1970, pp. 51-52)

LCMS, on the other hand, considers altar fellowship (where one must be in full agreement with all dogmatic positions) different from prayer fellowship (where there is room for disagreement).
Beginning in the late 1940s, Wisconsin was forced to delineate with greater precision what it had taught regarding prayer fellowship since at least the turn of the century.
There can be “no agreement in prayer among those who are disagreed as to their various religions,” wrote Pastor Henry Koch in The Northwestern Lutheran in 1948. “This also excludes prayer fellowship with other Christian denominations as well as among conservative and liberal Lutherans and Lutheran bodies.”52
Joh. P. Meyer explained that prayer fellowship always “presupposes a common faith, believing in the same God and approaching him on the same premises,” and thus also “presupposes church fellowship, established by a common confession of a common faith.”53 Neither sin nor weakness of faith disrupts the unity of the church, but “a refusal to accept the testimony of the Church” does disturb that unity. Taking what seemed direct aim at Missouri inconsistencies, Meyer said there were some “who
make a distinction between church fellowship as it appears in the form of pulpit and altar fellowship, on the one hand, and prayer fellowship on the other.” Jesus, however, “does not make such a distinction.”54
Edmund Reim concurred, saying we must “continue to speak of one fellowship” which “manifests itself in many ways.” Prayer, altar, and pulpit fellowship “are not so many different fellowships, but outstanding ways in which this one great fellowship manifests itself.”55 Fellowship “is all of one piece, like the seamless robe of Christ.” Great havoc will result “when this great unit of the truth concerning the fellowship of believers is divided and subdivided into countless fractions,” with each “treated as an isolated subject, for separate treatment and consideration.”56
By 1954 the Wisconsin Synod’s fellowship teaching came largely to assume the wording employed today. “With Church Fellowship we mean every outward expression and demonstration of Christian fellowship,” including prayer, wrote Carl Lawrenz. “We stand before [God] not merely as individuals but as believers who are intimately joined together with all other believers here on earth and in heaven above.” Thus “all our prayers are joint prayers.” In whatever ways believers may act in giving expression to their common faith, “they do not become so many kinds of fellowship” but are “all expressions of one and the same fellowship of faith.”57
Wisconsin came to call this the unit concept of fellowship. Already in 1950 Wisconsin’s members on the Synodical Conference Committee on Intersynodical Relations expressed their conviction that the term “church fellowship” was employed in Scripture “as a unit thought.”58 By 1960, differences between the synods on this point had crystallized. “Should church fellowship be treated as a unit concept, covering every joint expression, manifestation, and demonstration of a common faith?” Wisconsin answered Yes, Missouri No.59 At that an impasse was declared,60 and the vote to separate soon followed.

This is the issue that led to the WELS break-off from LCMS years ago.

And it is precisely why JonNC and all like him are headed straight to hell. 👍

(In retrospect, I think it was and continues to be a remarkably stupid thing to split over… In practice, I will go out on a limb and say few laypeople in either camp actually care about any of this today, and even fewer actually understand the difference.)

In truth, if Non-Catholics would just realize they were wrong and become Catholic, there would be no more reason for ‘tearing each other apart’. So, the doors are open, come on in and join the True Church.
Completely agree:D.

Christian unity is an illusion so each one might as well defend their faith with all the passion they posses.

Just take one denomination say Baptist. How many differing denomination are there under that banner. Or the Anglican Communion (?) or the Lutherans.

If the Protestants who separated fom the Church cannot even unite as one, what more with Protestants and Catholics?

The only way we will have unity is if everyone converted to the one true Church of Jesus (and yes I know Prodigalson will give me a whack in the head for saying that) but that simply is the only way.

And yes I am saying there is only One True Church of Christ. If you say that all Churches are the same, then you are calling Christ a liar for he established only one (uno, eine, une) Church.

Even just going by sheer number alone (not that it should matter) , the Catholic Church has the numbers as compared to any single protestant denomination.

So long as we have differeng doctrines, differing interpretations of the Bible then sadly we will never be united. This is supported by the fact that we see protestant denominations sprouting every year as Pastor Tom, Dick or Harry decides to set up his own church.

Pretending that doctrinal differences don’t exist is just burrying one’s head in the sand. And these doctrinal differences range from something which maybe bridgeable to yawning chasms.

Yes we say we all believe in Jesus Christ. But do we all agree on what we believe about Him?

And this may seem like warmongering but sadly this is the reality.

What we believe OF and ABOUT Christ are all different, that sometimes it seems the Christ we believe in is not the same Person at all.

We try to boild down Christianity to the least common denominator and in the process lose a big piece of what Christ and salvation is all about.

Having said all that though, should we bash each other because of our different beliefs? Certainly not. But a vigourous, even heated debate can help feret out the truth.

And as Peter Kreeft said, in any debate what should count are good arguments.

The threads may have different titles, but all roads lead to Rome and there is really only one over-arching theme through it all- which one is the True Church of Christ?

I put my money on…(of course you all now… the one Christ started in 33 AD;)) Yep, AD not CE!

Now you can all bash me in the head (helmet’s in place):).

naaaaaaaaa, Benedictus2…too much trouble. You’re safe, at least from me.

My, my, everybody’s up so early on this Columbus Day. Am I the only one who’s got the day off? The only reason I’m up is to put my car in the shop in preparation for my FIRST EVER VACATION ALONE!!!
I’m so excited I could split a gut.

Just wanted to share…

Will be up to it after the bacon eggs.🙂

Did you notice Auriel’s signature line? *“Whoeever looks at bacon and eggs lustfully has already committed breakfast in their hearts.”

oops.

Ok, this one needs to go back to the ‘draft’ file…

There is NO room in a "tear each other apart thread’ for people who actually want to, y’know, tear each other apart.

That’s the scientologists.
The Jehovah’s Witnesses can’t figure out whether the 144,000 have been chosen or not, and the Mormons stole all their beliefs from the Masons, who are also evil cultists.

What can I say? We have to get the ‘cults’ correctly identified.
