What is your opinion of tear-jerker homilies during Mass? Do you like them, feel neutral about them, or hate them? Sometimes I like them, and sometimes I hate them. Our parochial vicar told one today and I was so close to crying. I haven’t had a tear-jerker homily in a long time, so it was kind of refreshing.

For me, any homily could be a tear-jerker if the Holy Spirit is talking to me through it. That doesn’t happen most of the time, but it occasionally does.

Do you mean like sad stories about disabled children overcoming impossible odds, and stuff like that? Not a real fan, myself, although I don’t mind them once in a while.

I have often cried during a homily, but not because it was a tear jerker story but because the priest’s words struck a chord in me that brought me to tears.

I would perfer Not to cry during the homily, but that is the priests call. I just respond.
The Consecration , Holy Comminion, etc. is a different matter.

This is how it affects me also.

Even my Priest himself goes on the verge of crying during his homily. Especially his homily on Good Friday Last year and Holy Thursday this year
