So we canceled directv. Bummer. I don’t relly miss the shows, but boy do I miss the DVR! Especially since there are often shows on I want to watch when I’m putting DD to bed. (She learned new words this week - AMerican Idol 😉 ). I know, I know, that’s what VCR’s are for, but the quality is just so poor. So, does this thing exist?

Yep. Any DVR will do. Tivo is of course has the most brand recognition but you can go to your local BestBuy and buy most any DVR and fast forward through those commercials as much as you want. Of course, if you weren’t always fast forwarding through the commercials, you might know about Tivo. 😛

YES, Tivo. or if you have cable then your cable co, may have one also.

The box we have now is a Tivo box. I didn’t think it would work without the directv signal. I’ll have to get DH to take another look at the cables and the setup and try to get it to work. I would be happy as a clam, then! And DD won’t have to wait until American Idol is over to go to bed 😛

If that is a directv tivo and you do not have directv it will not work, you will most likely need other hardware.

Thats what I thought at first, too. I wonder if there is a DVR that I can buy off the shelf that wouldn’t make me use a service. Then again, buying new equiptment sort of negates the point of canceling directv, which was to save money.
