Yes it’s hard! Haha 🙂
But I always say that if God wants it to happen, He’ll make it happen. 😃
The thing with me is that I know I have a religious vocation. But God hasn’t shown me where yet. It’s hard because I’ve never been a patient person, but I guess this is God’s way of teaching me to foster patience. He has always had a sense of humor with me. 🙂 This is evident because He chose a crazy girl like me to be His bride. Of ALL people He has chosen me. Ha-ha! Does anyone else feel the same way? Lol 🙂

Hi! I am 16, and trying to discern my vocation presently. Right now, I fell strongly called to help children in Africa specifically, though I’m not sure if it’s as a nun, as a single person, or to marry there. I first started feeling called about a year ago, but I was a little scared at becoming a nun for some reason. However, now I am trying my best to be open to God’s inspiration and to accept what he is putting out for me. 🙂
Look at the Missionaries of Charity. They’re epic. I’m discerning a vocation with them. They have missions all over the world. (One or two that are less than an hour away from my home!) It’s Mother Teresa’s order. They even have a contemplative branch along with their active branch. They’re so amazing. I help at the soup kitchen and these women teach me so much. I love them to death!

God loves having all kinds of people be His bride. I’m thinking God DOES have a sense of humor. A priest once said in his homily, “If you think God doesn’t have a sense of humor; look at your family!” 😃

I like orders who are both active/apostolic and contemplative. I believe Carmelite Friars are an example. I’m discerning to be a Discalced Carmelite friar. Hopefully I will, if that’s God’s will. 🙂

I had no idea the posts on the last page were so far apart in time, lol. That’s what I get for skimming.

Actually I got sick last november 2009 with chronic fatigue syndrome. I haven’t abandoned the thought of nunhood. I’m guessing someone won’t let me. 😛 But right now I need to chill. I don’t know what the future brings right now, if and how much I’ll get better etc, so it’s hard to plan anything.
I have a mild fatigue issue and the docs aren’t yet sure what it is. I’ve been trying the sleep apnea treatment, but I haven’t noticed any difference. In the past, they suggested CFS, but there isn’t a definite test for it.

Have you found anything to help the fatigue?

okay are we twins?? I am dealing with the same exact thing. It’s almost harder now because I have an idea of where and when but it’s not going to be for at least another year and a half two years. Sigh…God knows best though right?

I often feel overwhelmed but I once heard a priest talking about shortly after his ordination someone asked his mother “aren’t you so proud of Joe?” and she said “Not any more proud of him than my other kids who are doing God’s will.” I think that’s really important to remember that it’s just about doing God’s will not consecrating yourself to Him or not.

Hi everyone, I’m pretty much in the same boat as everyone else here. Waiting… rather impatiently in my case!!
Somebody already posted this in another one of the vocations threads but this website is amazing–religious-vocation.com/index.html
I read it cover to cover, if you can say that for a website 😉
I was wondering, GilChrist77, is that Sister Joseph Andrew in your avatar pic? I love those Dominican Sisters.

Please note that this site is highly inaccurate in it’s characterisation of religious families. In a previous thread people belonging to Carmelite, Franciscan and Benedictine communities were unimpressed with the high number of distortions and mistakes evidenced.

This is not proof that all of the information on the site is inaccurate, but it does mean that one should be cautious; certainly a great deal of the terminology used is flawed and shows a poor understanding of the history of religious life in the church.

If interested you can read the former thread at:

Best wishes.

Yes that is SJA! I was discerning quite seriously with them for about a year. Have you ever been on one of their retreats?

If y’all could please pray for me. I’m trying to deal with some slight health issues currently and could really use some prayer support.

Thanks for the heads-up–I’ll use caution as I always do; the pages which were on religious life in principle did seem to be orthodox but I’ll make sure they’re in line with Catholic teaching 😉 I’ll also look at that thread to clear up some of this info on the orders.
Do you have any sites you’d recommend?

@GilChrist77–No, I haven’t been on any of their retreats yet, but I’d love to. Do you know the Nashville Dominicans (Dominican Sisters of St. Cecilia)? Another beautiful order.

No I haven’t. Mostly that’s just because of time/money. The SMME are only about an hour fifteen minutes away from me so I can visit them a lot easier. You should try and make one of their retreats. I’ve been on three and they were all amazing!!

So first off sorry for resurrecting this old thread, but I think that it is for a valid reason.

I went on a vocations retreat this weekend with a bunch of other guys at a beautiful retreat center in the middle of the mountains here in Colorado.

I first heard “the call” to the priesthood when God told me after I got home from Steubenville of the Rockies last July and for a time I avoided that like the plague. I eventually came to accept that He might be calling me, but now I feel like He really is calling me to the priesthood. I even got to meet Bishop Sheridan when he came up to speak with all of us as well! I used to feel scared about answering God when it came to my vocation, but now I’m feeling more and more at peace about it.

I’m still wondering if I should go to seminary right after high school, or go to college first. I’d like to go to seminary instead of a secular college before I get into a Catholic one. I’ll have all of senior year to think on that one, so its not a huge rush I guess.

I read somewhere that going to seminary after high school would be less money than going to college and then eventually going to the seminary. Going to the seminary after high school would still be your college, practically. At my local seminary, you study for four years at the college level then move on to study for another four years at a different location to get your degree in theology.

God bless you for your open heart to His call.
