“Teen Vogue, a magazine aimed at girls as young as 11 but run by agenda-driven adults, has published a column entitled “What to Get a Friend Post-Abortion.” Written by feminist Whitney Bell, the article makes light of abortion, condemns any suggestion of other options, and even recommends teens volunteer at local abortion clinics “to make it easier” for their friends who want to abort.”

. . . “Judging from Whitney Bell’s column, pro-abortion activists like the directors of Teen Vogue don’t care about women’s access to healthcare nearly as much as they care about the abortion industry’s access to children.”

Wow a Catholic on here saying bad things about abortion, awesome!!! It’s been so long, I’ve missed you!!! Just be careful, before the nights end you will have many posts about how you are not with the times and how the pope himself says not to always talk about abortion! It’s okay, I support ya buddy, good on you…

About the article, thanks, now I know not to let my 11 year old daughter read that junk…

What are teenage girls hearing from us? Are we getting the pro-life message out there?

I followed the link you cited, and it’s pretty bad. It is especially blatant how the offending column tries to gloss over some terrifying parts of abortion (“you can expect almost 3 solid days of pain” and “Likely worse than any period symptoms you’ve ever experienced”).

Apart from that, there is a lot wrong with the column. To start with, nobody who is 11 years old should be sexually active let along contemplating an abortion (granted nobody of any age should be murdering their children, but its especially worse when 11 year olds do it).

I don’t think we’re living in End Times, but we aren’t living in Good Times either.

Sexualize children, then convince them abortion is cool. Nothing diabolical about that…🤷

As per a Conde Nast media kit, a 2015 site survey shows the average age of the reader demographic for this magazine is age 18.
That seems credible. So it could be that close to 50% of the readership are less than 18, eg. in high-school. High school starts at about 12 years of age.

Not too sure how one determines the “target” demographic unless the publisher tells us. Looking at the magazine, the content does not look of great interest to many 11-year olds, but certainly there are lots of photos of some quite young shool age kids.

No, high school starts around 14-15. No one is 12 in high school.

Perhaps school terminology is different where you live. In my jurisdiction, school starts when one is 4 or 5. 7 years of primary school can see one start high school at 12, finishing around 17 or 18. Just like my son and most of his friends.

Who would let their 11 year old read Teen Vogue? That magazine talks about sex, makeup, how to flirt with boys, menstruation, abortion, masturbation, etc. Not something I think a responsible parent would give to an 11 year old? I feel so sad that kids these days are being forced to grow up so fast. I remember when I was 11 (back in the mid 90s) all I cared about was coming home from school getting my homework done, playing with my toys and watching cartoons on TV. I see girls these days who are 13 making themselves up to look 20. Now if these magazines are given to older teens, that’s understandable. Here in UK the age of consent is 16 and people will do what they will do even if it’s wrong. We shouldn’t encourage it, but if they have a job and buy it with their own money, not much can be done.

I had only just turned 13 when I started high school, and I live in the US.

I think it would be unusual, but not unheard of. Not to mention, there are many schools with buildings where all grades are housed together, or at least grades 7-12. That can have a “high school” feel even for what are technically the middle grades.

Many “teen” magazines are read by preteens. Most of them are garbage.

I always thought women’s magazines in general were kind of misogynistic. They’re all about how to be more attractive to men, how to please men sexually, how to dress/style your hair, etc. It basically tells women that they’re only worthwhile as physical bodies or as sexual partners. It defines them exclusively in relation to men.

Yup! And as soon as I figured that out I quit reading them. 😉

I don’t know anyone who actually reads magazines or the online equivalents.

I agree with you, but where are all the people trying to stop the sexualizing of these young girls, that lead to these problems in the first place? Sex between young people is glorified in movies and tv, clothing is made tighter and to show more skin, and marketed to girls of a certain age…what do they expect will happen with all this going on?

I also agree that no 11 yr old should be sexually active, but that is just another sign of the times imo, I am 43 yrs old, myself and many other kids I went to school with started becoming sexually active around 13-16 yrs old (and that was in the late 80s/ early 90s), so starting earlier and earlier was bound to happen

So understanding how something works as well as being supportive of friends is now a bad thing. Gotcha.

Kate, one cannot be morally supportive of evil. To give at least a glimpse through our eyes, let’s imagine an article like this on rape.

So your friend is planning to commit rape. You want to be there for them, but you don’t know what to do. Here are some gift ideas to make it more enjoyable because people have a stigma against rapists but there’s nothing to be ashamed of…

Would you not be horrified at such an article? When something makes light of the evil of child murder, iit’s appalling. Just as understanding how rape works and being supportive of it is morally corrupt, so it is with abortion.

I will admit that at least the comments to the article, almost all pro-life kept some faith in humanity.

There is a rather huge difference between rape and abortion. The fact you are trying to link the two is rather sad.

Both are evil acts that violate another person’s body. Do you at least understand why we find the teen vogue article so disturbing?
