I am not sure what you mean by those but I did do some engineering classes in high school and a little bit in middle through a program my school had called Project Lead the Way. Does that ring a bell?

In college I am now apart of my school chapter of the national AIAA, the American institute of aerodynamics and astrodynamics, and portion of that I am also apart of the DBF competition, design build fly. To be in DBF you have be an AIAA member. We are one of ninety schools competiting from around the world.

The acronyms stated above are robotics leagues. I have heard of Project Lead the Way, though my school doesn’t participate. I’ve been doing engineering since 7th grade. I can’t wait todo college engineering competitions. We’re you recruited for an engineering scholarship?

This is getting a little off topic but I have heard of FIRST. I don’t know if you have heard of LEGO LEAGUE but that is mainly for elementary and middle school kids.

I wasn’t recruited for engineering because I went to the school initially as a design student wanting to focus on architecture, which is similar to engineering but after I a year in the design prep year and not getting into the architecture program, my school has one of the top ten best architecture schools in the country but its competitive and cut throat to get in and stay in the program, I did a lot of self-reflecting and found that I wouldn’t be happy as an architect with their lifestyle and so went into engineering, transfered over the summer. Same school, different college/program in the school, which is also one of the highest ranking aerospace schools in the country as well. If your wondering what school this is, look up Iowa State University.

I believe God led me to the this school through my interest in architecture. I got really involved in the Catholic church community here and love it better than my home one. This also the time when I got a spiritual director and I just love him. He is a wonderful priest from Ghana, Africa and he is a lot like me. He is a good friend. When I found architecture wasn’t my thing and that engineering was what I wanted after all, I stayed here. God led me here and wishes me to stay here for now. For the moment I waiting for the time when God leads me further in my journey, whether it’s graduate school, a job in aerospace, a convent, a combo of those, or something else entirely. I am at His beck and call. Patience is something that I most definitely learned and is still learning here at college.

I keep saying this but it’s important and something I learned myself. Be patient and just pray about it, and be happy with where you are now. You will never be in that same position that you are now later on and so you can’t glorify God in the same way now later on. Just sit, wait, and listen. Find the small voice inside of you that is His and just enjoy His presence. Get to know Him. Right now, besides my studies, that is all He is asking me to do right now, to get to know Him and love Him more and more. When the time is right He will tell you where to go and He will be there with you the whole way.

Here is the link to a blog I read, she is Catholic and about your age and writes some really inspirational blog posts about her journey and things to help us on our journey as well. timeonthemountaintop.blogspot.com/

“Go out and glorify God with your life!”
“Thanks be to God!”
God Bless.

I participated in FLL for 3 years, and now i help my dad coach my Alumni team! i actually compete on all 3 levels of FIRST!

Architecture, I see. A noble profession, though not as good as engineering:) Your spiritual director sounds really cool! But since he is from Ghana, do you have a hard time understanding him because of the accent?

I try to glorify the Lord through everything I do, but i have a hard time because, how can a robotics competition be for the glory of God?

Though what you say in your last paragraph makes allot of sense, sometimes i worry about the future so much, I forget about what God wants me to do today.

But as a teenager yourself, you understand how hard it is to be patient sometimes… In a world of NOW NOW NOW, carefully and slowly discerning God’s gentle and beautiful call is one of the hardest things to do, since it takes so much time and it goes against the norms of society’s way of doing things.

As to your response to my question about the Eucharist. I love the Eucharist. Over the past month, something amazing has happened. When i got my confirmation, i noticed that at that pinnacle during the transubstantiation, when the priest help up the host, i just knew when it was no longer a piece of cardboard like bread or a cup of wine. but the Body and Blood of Christ. Now lately, I get crave the Eucharist. When i get to Mass i am so excited that i am going to receive soon. When i do receive,I am filled with joy! 🙂 this joy is sooooooo great!!! I can’t stop smiling after I receive, and when I Eucharistic minister, I am even more joy filled. Im standing there practically glowing as I distribute the Body or Blood of Christ. Everywhere I go, people always ask me, “why are you so smiley after communion?”

For those of you in engineering school, you know that engineers are an integral part of the world. Do yall feel as if you were to leave the engineering field, the world would be mad at you? That’s how I feel allot of the time, just yesterday, some lady recognized me from the paper a few weeks ago and asked me to sign it. IM not sure if this is because of my unusual level of dedication to an extracurricular activity and AWESOME skills or does this happen to all discerning engineers???

I know what you mean about getting so smiley after Euchurist. I feel so at peace and get so giddy after mass.

I also understand about learning to be patient. It is something I am still learning, as I said before.

My spiritual director can be hard to understand sometimes but the accent is something I have gotten used to.

About “leaving” engineering and what the world thinks of it, don’t pay attention to it. What is important is what God, the creator of all, thinks about your actions, not the world. Our brains and intelligence is a gift from God and it is only right that we use it the way He wishes to it, which may be in the development of something that will help mankind, which engineering generally does. Don’t worry what the world thinks. The world is corrupt and as Christians we are to in it but not be apart of it. Learn to focus on God through out the day and hopefully all day long. Learn to live Saint Therese’s Little Way, to do all that you do, even the little things, do it for your love for God. It is something I am learning myself. When it comes to robotic competitions think of it as preparation for the future. Give back the Joy you feel at mass to God through doing all you do in your Love and Joy of Him and you will receive so much more back from Him, who is Love itself.

Nothing in this life is going to be easy but think of the end result, life in Heaven with God and Jesus and Mary and all the Saints, then all that you do, easy or hard will seem worth it. Just get through it.

Sorry for the ramble but I hope this might clear up any misunderstandings if there were any.

God Bless

Sorry, for the delay, I was on a retreat all weekend!

Finally! somebody that knows what Im talking about!!! Any idea what it means!!

I have done some research on St. Therese, but I don’t really understand what it means. Explanation?

That’s fine. St. Therese’s Little Way is pretty simple, do every thing, big and small, as an Act of Love for God. So, even if it is merely lifting a pen off a table, do it with your love of God in mind. This especially comes helpful in times of doing chores we don’t like doing but doing them as a sacrifice for your love of God, it becomes worth it and more enjoyable. That is how I understand her Little Way to mean. It is explained better in her autobiography.

I hope this helps.
God Bless.

wow, her little way seems hard to do. yet at the same time easy… Remembering God by simply picking up a pen, or typing something into Google, WOW!
