I’m not sure how well this will work, but lets try it! For all teens, how do you feel about living out the Catholic faith while living in the world we live in now with so much peer pressure, bad influences, etc. How do you like it? How do you let others know you are Catholic? Do you take part in any youth groups or anything of that sort? Any thoughts on anything really! Lets just have a teen discussion about being Catholic! 🙂

Can I answer even though I am technically a grown-up at 20? 😃

Sometimes I sucks, especially since my friends tend to think Catholics are “homophobic” and judgmental. I will tell anyone though; I am Catholic, and I have moral principles that I won’t compromise. I’m sorry if it hurts your feelings, but I can’t compromise or make exceptions in Truth just so you don’t get offended. Seriously, PC has made everyone so thin-skinned.

I try to help out at my parish, and I will have discussions with anyone on campus about my faith. I go to a Baptist college, so there are many misconceptions, and often people are hostile. However, I’ve found that most peope are willing to hear my side. Unfortunately they are very stubborn in their anti-Catholicsm, so I think it goes in one ear and out the other! :o

I love the Church though! I am a convert and I love the Faith! I pray my rosary in public, invite people to pray the Divine Office with me, cross myself, and use holy water! 😛 I have a crucifix in my dorm, and I’m hoping to get a little Mary figurine to go with my dear “ceramic Jesus.” I am Catholic, and I love being Catholic! I love Mass and the Eucharist, and I would not revert to Protestantism for anything—only the Church has the Eucharist, has Jesus really present! (And has the full Bible, but that’s another story…)

Question for everyone, how many teens attend your parish? Unfortunenately its not very many in mine so I’m wandering whether that’s just in my area

I guess I’ll answer now.
  1. I pray (or try to) and read my Bible (or try to). Sometimes I forget, or I stay up too late and am just too tired to do it. That makes me feel guilty and sad so I try to at least pray every night and talk to God about how my day has been, and any troubles I might be having. I like it pretty well.
  2. I haven’t except on the internet. No one has asked if I was, so I haven’t told them. Though I suppose I could start wearing a crucifix and that might give some a clue.
  3. I’m in youth group at my non-denominational church but not at any Catholic parish right now. Last week I contacted the parish nearest my house via email to see if they had any sort of youth group or program. Their website says they have a teen Mass but doesn’t specify beyond that. I’m sort of wondering if they got the email or just didn’t respond/ deleted it, because I sent the message a week ago and still no reply back. I’m hoping to get involved and become friends with some Catholics my age so I have more support when I make my announcement.

Like I said, never been to either of the parishes in our city but our non-denominational church has a lot of teens and kids that show up. Then again, that might be because our church is humongous so there obviously going to be a lot of people show up for service.

The one I went to this past summer had maybe 10, if that. The town had a population of maybe 120 people, so that’s why there weren’t too many. Most of them were dressed as though they were going to a club, which I thought was terrible. But, that’s just how they dressed, and their parents didn’t argue with them. That really irritated me 🤷

Well, I’m 16 and Greek Orthodox, but back in January I took an interest towards the Catholic faith, and 2 months later I learned that I have a vocation to the religious life. Both religions are very alike in their beliefs and both have the 7 Sacraments, but I have decided I am going to convert 😃

My parents are very set against the Catholic faith because of what has happened in the Church in recent years. I tried to tell my Mom I wanted to convert, nothing about my vocation, and she told me to drop it completely. Of course, I’m not going to, because I love the faith so much 🙂 I have learned to pray the Rosary, and I read the Liturgy of the Hours daily whenever I have a free moment.

None of the “friends” I have are Catholic, and most are either Atheist, or have no belief as to whether there is or isn’t a God at all, so it can be very difficult at times. I can’t talk to them about religion at all, nor the fact that I am going to devote myself to it in the coming years. I have met a few people who I talk with frequently, and I couldn’t be happier. I have learned that the people in your life that care about you and support your decisions will always be there for you. The ones who think you’re making a mistake by having certain beliefs, or who try to dissuade you from sticking to your morals, aren’t the kind of people you need in your life.

I really enjoy where I’m at right now. I haven’t “told” my parents that I plan on converting in two years, and no one knows except for these people, who are Catholic: my Priest, my Great Aunt, and (somehow) my Grandpa. I still don’t know how he found out 🤷 I don’t think I’ll ever tell the people I know who don’t believe in God, because it won’t matter. They won’t change, and I feel that I don’t need them in my life. Because of my parents, I can’t participate in any Catholic youth groups. I know of a parish that does a weekend retreat once a month, but I would never be allowed to go.

I’m sorry that this was so long, but I do want to thank you for posting this thread! Much Love! 🙂

I’m wavering between Catholicism and orthodoxy right now. Both are so beautiful, I mean for instance I prefer catholic Christmas and pilgrimages like Lourdes but I prefer the orthodox Easter, christos anesti on easter night, nothing compares! I just really wish they would unite. Anyway you sound like a really good person so I’m sure the Holy Spirit will guide you to what you should do. 🙂

Technically not so many. But if you’re willing to count young 20-somethings in college, then very, very many.

That’s quite a lot! Here in England we might have five in a large town if we are lucky.

Don’t worry, I’m not really fluent in Greek, but I understand what you mean 🙂

I love the Orthodox Easter services! They are beautiful, and I was privileged to be a Myrrh Bearer when I was 10. I wish they would unite again, or at least agree with each other. But, they didn’t like the way Catholics practiced, so they fell away 😦 Don’t think too hard about which religion is right. God has a plan for you, and you just need to let Him lead you 🙂

Really? That’s surprising. I think the reason most of the ones at that parish went to Mass because their parents force them to go. It sounds pretty bad I know, but how could you need to be forced to go to church? 🤷

Do you like living in a small town?

I loved it! I live right outside of a city, and I hate living in or around cities. Unfortunately, I was only visiting with family and things didn’t end well, so I had to leave there and I don’t know if I’ll ever get to go back. But, it looks like I will be moving to a small town as soon as our house sells! :extrahappy: Please excuse my over excitement 😉

Hello everybody! I’m not really sure how many teens we have at my parish- probably several dozen, but I don’t know very many of them. Most of my friends are Lutheran.

I invite any and all teenagers on this thread to join the Catholic Teenagers group on this site! That includes those of you who are orthodox. Despite the name, we’re not overly picky in that respect. 😉

Not you, though, Razanir. You’re too old to fit in. 😛

Does that include us Protestants who really want to become Catholic, but can’t yet because of outside circumstances?
