With my rational, pragmatic mind, I see no harm in prayer to deliver second-hand items of any demonic influence. If the individual believes in it, then such prayer can reduce/eliminate influences which are a result of the individual’s beliefs. 🤷 Accept people where they are at, rather than judging them.

Pat Robertson has a long history of saying ridiculous things. This is just one more. He’s kind of the evangelical Joe Biden.
I watched the Robertson clip and as far as I can tell he didn’t say anything that would be opposed to Catholic Church teachings.

He might not have in this clip, and in fact I think what he said is possible, though very, very unlikely, sort of like worrying about whether your municipal drinking water is poisoned. But he’s the boy who cried wolf too many times.

interestingly enough, Fr. Gabriel Amorth, in his books An Exorcist Tells His Story and the sequel to it, he actually does address this topic. Fr. Amorth, a Vatican Exorcist, tells stories of clothing not being possessed but of there being demonic influences attached to material items.

Furthermore, only a licensed priest with the permission of his bishop or a bishop may perform a formal exorcism.

However, the laity are encouraged to pray two particular prayers of deliverance. The Anima Christi and the Prayer to St. Michael are prayers of deliverance that have particular graces attached to them.

Furthermore, a lay person should not try to ascertain presence of a demonic influence. That is best left to a trained priest with the assistance of trained professionals who deal with psychology, parapsychology, psychiatric medicine and other forms of counseling.:highprayer:

Why would used items be more likely to have demonic influences? Clothing, in particular, contains a lot of hand work compared to many other manufactured goods. I think if one us worried about this then both new and used items should be suspect.

This is off the topic (kind of) but I want to be involved in an exorcism. Like just get to see what really happens.

👍👍👍 By the way, for anyone who believes in Televangelists,
I have a bridge leading to Brooklyn, NY for sale! Cheap!!!
Liar! I bought it last week and I have the title to it!

But about televangelists, I always like Billy Graham, up until the altar call. That was just too Protestant for me. But he preached well, and I think tried to avoid doctrinal areas that would get us Catholics on his back.

What about those other guys on tv? Is joel Olsteen one? cash luna and benny hin…who are those guys?

I don’t see how this advice will help anyone buying secondhand clothing at the Salvation Army store :D. I can just see people taking their newly purchased secondhand clothing to a trained priest to examine it for demonic influence. lol Following a positive finding, they then take it to the Bishop’s home to be delivered to a licensed priest, upon which the Bishop’s secretary kindly dismisses them and their bundle of clothing asking them to please forget this nonsense.lol Now, if the clothing begins to levitate, well, that may get someone’s attention! 😃

Joel Osteen is a New Thought motivational speaker who has a pulpit. He’s very good at what he does, but what he does is Napoleon Hill dressed in Christian jargon.

I never heard of Cash Luna.

Benny Hinn is a WoF cult of personality.hyper-charismatic

I’m disappointed that any Catholic would get their information from the Huffington Post, an anti-Christian source, and to use them to bash non-Catholics is a moral low. They have a very strong anti bias against Christianity, of Catholic and non-Catholic Christians… It is a forum that is very popular among very liberal Secular Humanists.

I would never use the opinions of Huffington Post to learn all about Catholicism, nor would I post their anti-Catholic Biases on any forum. The right approach is to quote the actual source to hear what Pat Robertson had to say on demonic activity, and in the context of the ‘Questions and Answers’ segment of his show to better understand that segment of the show on several different questions. Context is very important in order to understand what someone actually believes, or is actually trying to say.

Here is the 700 Club segment where Pat answers questions in the ‘Answers and Questions’ from his audience.

cbn.com/tv/2187641708001

So that you do not have to watch the whole show.

The Answer and Questions and Answers starts at 34 minutes and 18 seconds, and the discussion of demonic activity starts at 40 minutes:20 seconds.

Then make up your minds, not through the eyes of the anti-Christian/anti-Catholic Huffington Post, but directly from the actual source - Pat Robertson on his 700 Club. Show. And you can compare it with your own Catholic Church on their view of demonic activity.

I’ve listened to Benny Hinn and Joel Osteen, I do not listen to them anymore. I’m turned off by preachers and Churches whom endow themselves with Great Wealth. A few decades ago, Benny Hinn asked his TV audience to place their right hand on a blank sheet of paper and trace the outline of their right hand onto the paper, write their prayer requests below the hand trace, and to mail it to an address he gave them, and Benny Hinn said he would place his hand on their hand as he prays to God for their request.

NBC TV did an expose on what actually became of those donations and hand prints and prayer request. It turned out the donations went to an agency for collecting money, whereby they remove the money from the envelope for a sizeable fee, and they disposed of the letters into their garbage Dumpsters. The NBC filmed the actual papers with hands drawn on them. I am very wary of so-called church preachers who accumulate great wealth for themselves. Imagine if the Apostles of Jesus did that, That could never be.

Yeah, if anyone doubts that this is a Catholic belief ask yourself why a priest comes to bless your home by throwing holy water all over it? It is an exorcism of sorts. So is saying grace before meals, believe it or not. Why are we blessing the food?

I read Malachi Martin’s book, “Hostage to the devil” It was very informative of a world most people do not normally see. I am glad that He who is in me, is greater than he who is in the world. As Christians, we have the indwelling Holy Spirit.

Oh, but I do. Im not afraid. I have seen demons just as clearly as you see this post. I know whats there and who protects us from them. If I wasnt married with children I would become a priest just for this reason, to help drive out demons from these poor folk.

Does grace before meals mean you are blessing the food? I thought it meant you are thanking G-d for the food. In Judaism that’s what it means, and a prayer is said after meals as well.
