Televangelists escape penalty in Senate inquiry

NEW YORK (AP) — A senator’s high-profile investigation of spending by televangelists wrapped up after more than three years Thursday with no penalties for the pastors who refused to cooperate and no definitive findings of wrongdoing.

Chuck Grassley raises questions about the personal use of church-owned airplanes, luxury homes and credit cards by pastors and their families, and expresses concern about the lack of oversight of finances by boards often packed with the televangelists’ relatives and friends.

IMHO, these vultures prey on poor trusting, naive souls who give thier hard-earned money away believing they are ‘planting a seed’, and money will suddenly appear in their bank accounts, debts will be cancelled. I actually saw one pushing a “no evil oil”, apply it and you’re like superman to bullets.
These televangelists live in luxury on the backs of trusting people who have nowhere else to turn and get desparate/
There has to be a special compartment in Hell for these ‘people’.

I’d hate to stand before God if I willing and purposely took money that did not belong to me from trusting people. Judgment WILL come to all who misuse others!!!

However, the Senate should investigate themselves for how they spend our money. They should look at how much they get paid (including their pensions). They’d better NOT cast stones. You know what Jesus says about sinners casting stones at sinners.

God will judge those you mention. God’s judgment is far worse than anything the Senate can do to any clergy that abuses their power.

Is this the clarification you wanted?

Obviously if these people beleived in that judgement they would not continue to do it.
 
That bunch of vultures makes me ill, but there is a practical matter that is horrible. The poor person sitting at home, hoping that Brother Scamster’s miracle cloth will bring wealth, health, or happiness, is sending more money than can be afforded. Brother Scamster is not going to come to the house when the poor person is ill or when he or she just needs someone to listen.

If a person wishes to contribute to a decent Protestant organization, there is always the Salvation Army. Those good people will be there when you need them, won’t be out on the private jet, and will be doing it to truly serve others.

A good suggestion.
Beyond that, if one wants to contribute, contributing to your own parish/congregation is almost always a good choice. One can usually see how the funds are being used to the glory of God in the service of our fellow man.

There are many reasons why people follow false teachers. One important on is that local churches are not doing their job to get the Gospel to the needy. And by this I mean the Gospel spoken and lived.

I say this to my own shame. I fall short tooooooo often.

I actually saw a televangelist a week or so ago pushing a “no evil oil”. Annoint yourself with it and ‘no evil’ can touch you.
You can’t make this stuff up.🤷
 
And on the same subject…I see Jim Bakker is back on TV still doing the same old dance.
