With Advent upon us, I can’t think of anything better, than to ask you to tell me about Jesus.

He called God “Abba” which means “Daddy”.

But I’m gathering that you’re going to be aware of most everything that is said here.

Jesus is the Christ that was talked about in the Old Testament. He is the Son of God. The mediator between God and man, our Lord and our judge and advocate before the Father.

He is the second person in the Holy Trinity which is one God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

He cannot be defeated by anything. The world was created through him.

He sits at the right hand of the Father. He lives forever.

JESUS, ETERNALLY BEGOTTEN SON OF GOD:

He was born in an obscure village, the child of a peasant woman. He grew up in another village. He worked in a carpenter shop until He was thirty. Then for three years He was an itinerant preacher.

He never owned a home. He never wrote a book. He never held an office. He never had a family. He never went to college. He never put His foot inside a big city. He never traveled two hundred miles from the place He was born. He never did one of the things that usually accompany greatness. He had no credentials but Himself…

While still a young man, the tide of popular opinion turned against Him. His friends ran away. One of them denied Him. He was turned over to His enemies. He went through the mockery of a trial. He was nailed upon a cross between two thieves. While He was dying his executioners gambled for the only piece of property He had on earth - His coat. While he was dead, He was laid in a borrowed grave through the pity of a friend.

Nineteen long centures have come and gone. and today He is a centerpiece of the human race and leader of the column of progress.

I am far within the mark when I say that all the armies that ever marched, all the navies that were ever built; all the parliaments that ever sat and all the kings that ever reigned, put together, have not affected the life of man upon this earth as powerfully as has that one solitary life.

[This essay was adapted from a sermon by Dr. James Allan Francis in “The Real Jesus and Other Sermons” copyright 1926b by the Judson Press of Philadelphia (pp 123-124 titled “Arise Sir Knight!”).]

RosaryFan’s post reminded me of Luke 23.13-25; you know, how Barabbas was also named Jesus, how Jesus was a common name. So, Jesus was also a rebel and a murderer of Roman officers…

Well, He’s the second person of the Trinity. He is both God and He is the Son of God. He was born of a virgin. He performed many miracles while upon the earth. He is present throughout the world in tabernacles in Catholic Churches everywhere. He is our Savior. And that’s about all I can think of. Anyway, here’s a New Advent page about Jesus Christ where there are links to articles about Him:

He is the King of glory…the creator of heaven and earth who stepped down from his throne to be born humble in a manger, lived a perfect life and never sinned against God, was rejected by the people He loved the most… He was spat on, beaten, and crusified for the redemption of mankind. He rose again and is now seated at the right hand of the Father in glory!!

What a king!
