IAlternatively, some people just like to argue and some want information so they can go and research counter-arguments to what you say. Some may also see it as evangelising.
hmmm… never thought of that… (researching counter-arguments)…

i don’t know… The older i get, the less i like to argue…

Is that a sure sign you are (offically) old??? 😦

😃 Or would it be that your med’s have started working? 😃

that being said… some people may think i need meds…

probably because i am Catholic… but i don’t “believe in” taking such meds…

However… after dealing with some of the Protestant agitators on this forum…

hmmm… i might could be persuaded to reconsider.

:hypno: :ouch: :hypno: :banghead:

It is possible to be wrong, as no one knows the heart of another except God. There is a slight chance that the grace of God may reach some of these non-Catholics as they visit these boards.

I am hopeful that some good will come out of their visit here. Welcome non- Catholics.🙂

Blessings

yeah, i’m thinking Valium… or…

maybe just a huge Boilermaker would do… 😃

(PS Aren’t you glad we Catholics can drink?? 😃 … you know, without feeling like we are on that slippery slopeway to Hell?

I came here because I was assured I could discuss doctrine here, in an interfaith setting. Instead all I find is argument over whose faith is correct and whose is not. Nothing interfaith about that and it solves nothing.

Then the answers are mostly worse. “They” want answers, “they want” this or that. I’m not some alien. I am a Christian, an Episcopalian, and part of a catholic church. I didn’t come here to learn about Catholicism, I was one for 30 years, I’ve been an Anglican for 20. I don’t come to convert anyone. I come to discuss mutual areas of interest and places where we can work together. Apparently that’s not really possible, because all I see is “We wrote the bible, and We are the True church.” This stuff, even if believed does zero to either enhance one’s position or to foster dialog.
Welcome to the world of religion! :rotfl:

Mankind has been fighting over religion from the dawn of time and probably always will, until Christ comes back that is. It’s funny how people seem to be able to discuss just about any topic reasonably and rationally except religion and politics. Senisitive areas!

Like yourself, I used to believe that through dialogue we could all come to an understanding I got a rude awakening. Incidently, I live in Northern Ireland! I think the Taize community has it right. They all just get on with practicing their respective faiths, no one tries to convert anyone else, they don’t discuss anything, but come together for morning and evening prayer.

It’s a sign of maturity which can be interpreted as old. A sure sign your getting old is you stand further back from the stage at concerts than you did in the past.😛

and you know you are really old when you don’t even go to concerts anymore…

or is that when you are… not so much old as… bored with everything that is not Jesus… 🙂

I seemed to have acquired a slight affinity for “Single Barrel Jack Daniels” of late…😃

😃 You betcha!!😃

don’t know what that is, but do drink whiskey… in cappuccinno (with cream and honey and almond flavoring) yum!!

Yeah, when the Catholic Church says drinking this kind of thing is a sin, you will know it has, officially, apostatized… 😃

i’m not talking about the genuine ones… i have a lot of respect for them because they are sincerley trying to find truth…

i do not respect trouble makers much however… I do need to pray for them, though… those who have nothing better to do… well, they obviously need prayers… worse than others may need them…
Yet, the trouble makers may just find a conversion. We never know and it is not for us to judge, now is it?

but i think a lot of non-Catholics just come here to the forums to waste our time - acting like they want answers when they really don’t, when all they want to do is go on and on and on… asking the same question but in different words (etc). I’ve seen it happen so many times… they never seem to want to accept ANY answer that is given… and then, at some point, they just drop out suddenly, saying things like “I’m done”…

Do you get the feeling they are just trying to aggravate us or somehting? Or what???

Why do they do this?? Seriously… i don’t get it… (Which reminds me of a Thread that inspired this one… called something like: “I still don’t get it”).

i mean, if they hate Catholicism that much… why do they waste their time and our’s as well…?
Well, they certainly never come up with good arguements. Mostly they just embarass themselves.

define “judge”…

I think the judging we are not to do is to say that someone is going to hell… that kind of hting…

I don’t feel i am judging when i call some posters 'trouble makers". i am simply stating my view that that is what they are… and when they keep posting arguments against the faith that are … well, just posted, apparently, to argue… when they don’t admit (EVER) that the Church just might be right about something…

it gets old…

(and having an opinion about something is not being judgmental)

you would THINK they would feel embarassment… !!

to me, when a poster just continues to argue with Catholics here… about every little thing that they have already argued (unsuccessfully) about… and when they know or strongly suspect they are wrong… it tends to indicate pride… and therefore, just proves all the more (were such proof needed…) the necessity of the purging process ( Purgatory) they claim to disbelieve in… i mean, in other words… is such pride going to be allowed into Heaven? i think not…

Actually I don’t think it’s necessary to respond in any length- for perhaps there may be some who enjoy taunting Catholics - but do we need a thread to criticize our Protestant brethren in return?

There are most likely many Protestants who have come here to learn. And - maybe to your surprise - many Protestants may have much to teach us Catholics as well. If you rule this out - you will begin to sound like my dad - who hates Protestants, and treats them like the Jews treated the Gentiles in the 1st century!

Be kind, be patient - and be open minded brother. What do we have to lose? If we have the truth - then none can snatch it away; and if we have not the truth - then thank God for bringing us this forum where we may glean it from both Catholics and even some Protestants who love our Lord Jesus Christ as we do.

We should not be cursing - but blessing, even after the demonstration and example of St. Paul who said: “Grace be with ALL them that love our Lord Jesus Christ in sincerity. Amen.” (Ephesians 6:24) 👍

I have been kind and patient… and will continue doing so… but when you are patient and explain things and try to help & all you get is a bunch of … well [unprintable]… it gets tiresome…
Well - just a thought - but maybe God is telling you something. By discerning the force of their convictions - maybe we should stop and listen for a while and really try to see where they are coming from. We think we know - but do we really?

Sorry to call you brother - Sister - lol! 🙂

But seeing how you have affirmed that you have learned a lot from Protestants - can you share with me some of those things? What things have you learned about our Savior and about the faith from our Protestant brethren? I truly ask wishing to know. I am always open minded when it comes to the family of God - and eager to learn how our Father reveals himself to our brothers and sisters in Christ. What things have you learned from our brothers?

Thank you and God bless! 👍
