I have been reading the scriptures and thus seen the sacraments in the scriptures. e.g confirmation, and I feel I doubt the “alone” in the phrase “Faith alone” with Paul’s argument wasn’t speaking against the Ideas of works like charity but Circumcision demanded by some Christians. In see the importance of faith and love. It is very important that Christ as are high priest and our Salvation.

Anyway, how any Sacraments can you find?

Vico, may I ask where you got that list from? I am due to give a talk to a non-RC group soon on ‘Catholic customs - have you ever wondered why’ and I bitterly regret throwing away a pamphlet I used to have listing Biblical references for all the things we do.

It is important to realize that sacraments are not based on scripture, but rituals practiced continuously and referenced in scripture.

The sacraments existed for decades before the scriptures were written. Not all of the details are explicitly documented, but all are referenced.

Thank you, Vico!

  1. Baptism; 1Cor 12:13 by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body Jews or Greeks slaves or free all were made to drink of one Spirit TITUS 3:5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done but according to his mercy he saved us by the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Ghost 6 Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour. Eph5:25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; 26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, Acts22:16 And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.
  2. Holy Orders (ordination); Acts 13:3 when they had fasted and prayed and laid their hands on them they sent them away 4 So they being sent forth by the Holy Ghost 2Tm 1:6 …I remind you rekindle the gift of God that is within you through the laying on of my hands ACTS 20:28 Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers to feed the church of God.
  3. Marriage; Mt 19:5 For this shall a man leave father and mother and cleave to his wife and they two shall be one flesh? 6 …they are no more two but one flesh What God has joined together let not man put asunder . Joined by the Holy Spirit. Most especially in that most intimate communion of the marrage bed. They become ONE flesh. Eph 5:28 So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies…29…as the Lord the church 30 we are members of his body of his flesh and of his bones 31 For this shall a man leave his father and mother and shall be joined to his wife they two shall be one flesh 32 This is a great mystery but I speak concerning Christ and the church
Marriage the mirror of Christ and Church. Christ’s flesh and blood made one with the flesh=people=church.
  1. Confirmation; Acts 19:5 When they heard they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus 6 And when Paul had laid his hands on them the Holy Ghost came on them and they spake with tongues and prophesied. ACTS 8:14 …when the apostles at Jerusalem heard Samaria had received the word of God they sent Peter and John 15 Who…prayed … they might receive the Holy Ghost 16… For as yet he was fallen on none of them only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus 17 Then laid they their hands on them and they received the Holy Ghost.

  1. Confession; Jn 20:21 Jesus said to them again Peace be to you as my Father has sent me so send I you 22 when he said this he breathed on them and said to them Receive the Holy Ghost 23 Whose soever sins you remit they are remitted unto them and whose soever sins you retain they are retained. Jms 5:14 Is any sick among you? call for the elders of the church let them pray over him anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord 15 And the prayer of faith shall save the sick and the Lord shall raise him up and if he have committed sins they shall be forgiven him.
  2. Anointing of the sick; Jms 5:14 Is any sick among you? …call …the elders of the church…let them pray over him anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord 15 …the prayer of faith shall save the sick and the Lord shall raise him up.
Sins are forgiven an act of grace given by God working through bishops and priest.
  1. Euchariste; JN 6: 32 Then Jesus said to them Verily I say to you Moses gave you not that bread from heaven but my Father gives you the true bread from heaven 33 For the bread of God is he which comes down from heaven and gives life to the world 34 …Lord evermore give us this bread 35 Jesus said I am the bread of life LK 22:14 when the hour was come he sat down and the twelve apostles with him 15 he said I have desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer… 16…17…18…19 he took bread gave thanks broke it and gave it to them saying This is my body which given for you this do in remembrance of me 20 Likewise the cup after supper saying This cup is the new testament in my blood which is shed for you
