Earthly possession can be man’s treasure, after all, we are called to rule the earth and subdue it. And we know that a saint’s or Christian’s earthly possession is precious in the eyes of God. We read a lot in the Bible of God mindful of his people’s goods and livestock. And we know the holiness that lingered on relics.

My question is:

Can things redeem our incoming tragedies? I mean, can God use the loss of things (e.g cellphone, money, house) to divert a tragedy that is coming?

I ask this for I believe God can use the injustices that we gain from the loss of our things to smack inevitable retribution. God bless you.

Involuntary loss of material possessions carries no divine merit (as opposed to voluntary sacrifice made for spiritual reasons, which does facilitate Grace). There is no “cosmic scale” which balances bad events with good events, or which strives to be sure that “too many” bad events do not occur.

However, personal suffering (whatever the cause) may be meritorius if we accept our suffering and offer it to God. St. Theresa of Avala probably best described this process.
