Yes, intention is very important in some issues.
I reccomend speaking with a Catholic doctor (if you have the funds, if not it is possible you may just be able to speak over the phone?), but if that is not possible, then I reccomend speaking with the pastor

Abstaining for one month is not an undue burden. And I say this as a youngish married man with a healthy sex drive.

The Church’s teaching is not “you may never use condoms”.
Its teaching is “Similarly excluded [as unlawful] is any action which either before, at the moment of, or after sexual intercourse, is specifically intended to prevent procreation—whether as an end or as a means.”

That does not always exclude the use of a condom in certain unusual situations - of which what you described may be one of them.

You need to discuss this with a knowledgable priest. First ask him if he is familiar with the Confessor’s “Vademecum”. If he is not then find another priest who is.

The long and short is that a Catholic may passively cooperate with an unbelieving partner in this type of disorder under certain circumstances.

Usually it is a Catholic wife “paying the debt” to her non Catholic husband.

You would have to justify why you cannot abstain for 30 days.
It is a little hard to believe that neither of you are able to do so.
Unless your wife is ready to jump off the roof due to sexual frustration that seems to be what God is asking of you here.

My question is, how should we prevent pregnancy during that first month without sinning?
Don’t have sex.

Seriously, 30 days is not that long. I’m willing to bet that most people who have been married for many years have gone 30 days when one or the other person is ill or injured, is in the late stages of pregnancy or in a sleep-deprived state with a newborn, is traveling on business, or there is some family crisis or tragedy.
I’ve been there/ done that and the world doesn’t come to an end.

Abstain, as what the posters here advised. Your case is rather straight forward that’s why you get straight answer. I totally agree with them.

As for the abstaining - it may be less than a month if your wife has regular menses. The week before the next menses or slightly more, is usually safe days.

You can commend yourself for being faithful to the teaching of the Church. God will certainly bless you and honors your faithfulness.

Thank you to everyone who replied to this post. This was my first ever post on here and I learned a lot.

God bless y’all.
