Temptation and Sin

When a person gets a sinful thought in his/her head is he or she sinning? Does the person avoid sinning when they realize the sinful thought and pray a Hail Mary for example or simply tell himself/herself to stop thinking that way because it is sinful?

…best way I know how to describe it… i am male, i see a pretty female and think… ob boy isn’t she hot in an unflattering thought. That’s temptation… now, i spend a lot of time fantisizing about all kinds of things that would offend most anyone… that’s sin…

…if your sorry for your sin, make an act of contrition and try to avoid repeating the same infraction and your square with the world… in some cases given certain circumstances that sin can me mortal, then you better make a bee line for the confessional…
