And east! You’re an Aussie, aren’t you?Love a trip north!
You are lucky! I’d never even heard of it until I found this forum.I thought it was a universal thing, but I just checked a neighboring parish’s website and saw that they aren’t doing it. I suppose I’m lucky.
Tenebrae is Lauds and Matins, two of the morning prayers from the Liturgy of the Hours - which all priests are required to pray daily,Roseeurekacross:![]()
After reading this on my parrish’s website I saw these listed. Have two questions. This is a beautiful service. Go if you can
- What is a tenebrae?
- Is the Easter Vigil a mass? (opposed to just lighting candes etc) A family member mentioned that one time they went to an Easter Vigil but it wasn’t a mass - not sure if they are confused.
Yeah, it’s kind of cool when the lights start turning on in the Church with all the bells ringingLOL
More dramatic in the dark. Much more symbolism, I suppose.
Just to be clear for people reading this… the ordinary time for the Chrism Mass is the morning of Holy Thursday. But if the Diocese is geographically too large (or for other logistical reasons) the Chrism Mass can be moved to another day.Tuesday of Holy Week: Chrism Mass with the Archbishop…Bishop blesses the new holy oils for the coming year…
To be clear… it’s 7 Old Testament Readings, with a psalm between each one. Then 1 NT Epistle, an 8th psalm, and then the Gospel.Holy Saturday has the Easter VIvl. It is a long Mass, the biggest night of the entire church year.
… 7 readings with only the small tapers…
