I’ve never read a twilight or 50 shades book. I have enough excitement in my life, and from what I’ve heard the writing is absolutely terrible and all just cheap cliche shock value. Not something I’d waste my time with. Plus isn’t the lead character abusive, or a sociopath of some kind? How do people get into that **** and spin it as romance?

Assuming this is a sequel to the Fifty Shades of Grey? Never read that fifth ,certainly wont’t read this one either.
Interesting with the “Woman’s March” and the outrage directed at our mysoginistic POTUS,their words not mine,have to wonder how many will be all over this book as the last one.

“Boycott” = promoting (free publicity). Why is she (Teresa Tomeo) adding to this movie’s publicity?
It’s opening at #2, after Lego Batman (#1) but ahead of John Wick 2 (#3.) I didn’t know anything about Lego Batman. I did see a TON of ads for John Wick 2 and a TON of ads for Fifty Shades, including its soundtrack.
Best Picture Oscar Nominees “La La Land” and “Hidden Figures” are both still showing, and they’re both suitable for families.

The 50 shades movies are extremely popular around here, it seems every woman I talk to absolutely loves these movies, one gal at work actually told me they are so popular because secretly, most women would love to be in this type of relationship and have those things done to them, now, the rational side of me would immediately disagree, but from all my past GFs and ex-wife, I know she is right.

I don’t disagree, but I feel this may have the opposite effect of what’s intended. Fast and Pray. Let your voice be heard, but I feel as if boycotting will make people more likely to see it.

Not necessarily. I think people aware of the content and disapproving will already boycott it.
The age group I would be concerned about though would be the 16-21 year olds as they would be most curious as to the boycott.

Guarantee no one 16-21 cares about this movie in the slightest. This is thoroughly the domain of the bored middle aged housewife.
No idea how this movie/book became such a cultural lightning rod. It’s just softcore porn wrapped around a flimsy plot, basically no different than anything on Cinemax or HBO after midnight. Getting all worked up and trying to boycott it makes it way more important than it is. Besides, the movie is already getting abysmal reviews, so it’ll probably just peter out on its own.

Coming-out-of-retired hitman continues his war with the Russian mob and spends two hours killing people by gun, knives, kung fu, and even a pencil (supposedly) – all over his little puppy dog that was killed? And the dialogue – so many f-bombs of every variation.
Shouldn’t John Wick 2 be boycotted, too, or is it ok to see John Wick 2 because it’s not Fifty Shades?

I suppose that’s true. I mean, I don’t want to see it, and I have no desire to see it. I don’t see why anyone would want to see it. I have my views on the type of film it is, and I have my views on the books as well. My understanding is that it originated as Twilight fanfiction. I saw the first Twilight film. I am not a fan.

I’m not sure that “I’m not seeing that movie because I’m not interested” is the same as boycotting. I’m not seeing Pixar movies unless I’m babysitting my nephews, not because they offend me and I think they should be taken out of theaters, but because I don’t have small children and I’m not really interested. I just think “boycott” in the context of Fifty Shades of Grey is a little overly dramatic. It’s just a cheesy movie with horrible reviews aimed at women who want something “spicy.” We should really just let it go.
I just don’t think kids are going to see this as particularly interesting or dangerous. Virtually every 16-21 year old today has a smartphone in his or her pocket, and can pull up mountains of incredibly graphic pornography within five seconds. The idea that a movie that shows some bare butts and breasts is going to strike them as exciting and dangerous just seems naive to me. I think they picture this as not much beyond the Victoria’s Secret catalogue.
