I’m not sure where to put this but here it goes. The other day I found out that a lady I knew passed away about three weeks ago. I hadn’t spoken to her in quite awhile, I had a dream that told me to keep my distance so I did.

Anyway, the other night I was trying to pray for her and I just couldn’t. It took me about half an hour to pray an Our Father, Hail Mary and Glory Be. As I was praying I kept having visions of demons and monsters, I would try and concentrate on a picture of the Cross or Divine Mercy and those images would be there for a second and then immediately they would be gone and the images of devils, fire and demons would take their place. Needless to say, I was freaked out:eek:!!! I can’t remember if right before or right after I said my evening prayers and had no problem, I got through those prayers very easily and quickly.

I have never had anything like this happen to me before, I have never been perturbed like this before. I know that we can’t pray for someone who is in hell, but how do we know? I know this situation made me wonder if that’s where she is.

I know for a fact that she was a witch/healer person. She “healed” people of certain ailments that came as a result of hexes and witchcraft and such. I also know that she put hexes on people and did witch stuff for money. What I mean is she would take money from people who wanted something bad to happen to someone else and she’d work her 'whatever" to make it happen.

Does anyone know why this may have happened to me, or has it happened to anyone else? This really has me concerned, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks. I want to keep praying for her if it’s going to help, but maybe that was a clue that my prayers are not welcome?

Maybe the woman was a friend of saten, and is gone to hell.If this is the case, it is very sad, but theres really nothing you could do.However, there is of course a possibility she’s in Purgatory. There is a certain prayer that, every time you say it, 1000 souls go from Purgatory to Heaven.I think you should pray that for this woman. This is the prayer…

“Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Most Precious Blood of your Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the Masses said throughout the world today, for all the Holy Souls in Purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the universal church, those in my own home and within my family. Amen.”

If you continue to experience these visions, even with the help of this prayer, then it must be a sign that there is no point in praying for her.I will pray for her, too.God bless.

I wouldn’t put that much stock in visions that I’d stop praying for the poor soul :nope: it may just be your own mind playing tricks with you, since you are aware that she indulged in such activities. Doesn’t mean she’s a hopeless case.

I don’t often pray for specific souls, much more usual is for me to offer for whichever souls need it the most, as the Fatima prayer says. Perhaps try this, the lady will get your prayers if she needs 'em - and if they’d be helpful to her.

Don’t focus on the visions. It could be just your mind playing trick on you. It could be the way you thought of her that she might be in Hell for what she did.

We don’t know for sure who is in Hell, and the best thing to do is to pray for them.

Satan and his cohorts come to us in many ways. Saint Padre Pio claimed that if God gave us full vision of the evil in the world, the number of evil spirits would make the air black - kind of scary.

Don’t discount that you may, in fact, have seen a vision of hell or demons. Nothing happens without God allowing it - if it is a vision, what is God’s purpose? I would start by praying before the Blessed Sacrament and ask the Holy Spirit to help you discern.

I would continue to pray for this women’s soul, as others have stated. We cannot know for certain whether or not someone is in hell, purgatory, or heaven, unless the Church makes a specific declaration (as with sainthood). Assume she is in purgatory and do acts of reparation to get her out. The most powerful prayer, of course, is the Holy Mass - go to Mass every day for her - offer your Holy Communions and your Confessions for her intention. The next most powerful prayer is the Holy Rosary - say at least one a day for her. Also, other prayers are very effective i.e. stations of the cross. Many saints have said that souls are relieved greatly when you offer your blessing with holy water for their intention.

My advice is turn up the heat and storm Heaven with your prayers - if she is in purgatory and you help deliver her, she will be there to greet you when you enter into heaven!

Lexee:

Before I say anything else - I’ve never heard any instruction from any Church Authority that we shouldn’t pray for souls that we believe may have chosen hell instead of heaven.

My mother did at least some of what the lady you’re talking about did. In fact, the reason she started attending church with my father and the rest of us, and joined the choir, was so that she could broaden her customer base. and, At least some of the people at that “broad church” parish did go to her to have their palms, tarot and fortunes read. That didn’t stop some very conservative Catholic priests from saying Requiems for her on my behalf.

First off, see if one of the priests that you know will do a Requiem for her - It’s the ultimate prayer, and it’s what we’re called to do.

In addition, try getting someone to pray with you, and starting each and every session with the Prayer to St. Michael the Archangel

Saint Michael the Archangel,
defend us in battle.
Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray;
and do Thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host -
by the Divine Power of God -
cast into hell, satan and all the evil spirits,
who roam throughout the world seeking the ruin of souls.
Amen.

Here’s an excellent prayer for you and your prayer partner to pray antiphonally:
** AKATHIST for the REPOSE of
Those Who have FALLEN ASLEEP**
KONTAKION 2
Enlightened by the illumination of the Most High, Saint Macarius heard a voice from a pagan skull: “When you pray for those suffering in Hell, there is relief for the heathen.” O wonderful power of Christian prayer, by which even the infernal regions are illumined! Both believers and unbelievers receive comfort when we cry for the whole world: ALLELUIA.
KONTAKION 6
Terrible is the darkness of a soul separated from God, the torments of conscience, the gnashing of teeth, the unquenchable fire and the undying worm. I tremble at the thought of such a fate, and I pray for those suffering in Hell as for myself. May our song descend upon them as refreshing dew as we sing: ALLELUIA.
IKOS 6
Thy light, O Christ our God, has shone upon those sitting in the darkness and shadow of death and those in Hell who cannot cry to Thee. Descend into the infernal regions of the earth, O Lord, and bring out into the joy of grace Thy children who have been separated from Thee by sin but who have not rejected Thee. For they suffer cruelly. Have mercy on them. For they sinned against Heaven and before Thee, and their sins are infinitely grievous, and Thy mercy is infinite. Visit the bitter misery of souls separated from Thee. Have mercy, O Lord, on those who hated the truth out of ignorance. May Thy love be to them not a consuming fire but the coolness of Paradise:
O Lord of unutterable Love, remember Thy servants who have fallen asleep.

There is more to the prayer - It’s almost impossible for a one man to do it on his own, but it’s designed to be said or song antiphonally by 2 or more people.

One of the Orthodox Brothers sent it to me after Teresa Schindler-Schiavo died.

Your Brother in Christ, Michael

you do realize that private visions are a banned topic on these forums, and the reasons for that ban. the proper place to discuss such an experience is with your spiritual director or confessor, not here.

I like the idea of having a Mass said for her.👍

God exists outside of time, so even your prayers now can save her.

If the evil one is discouraging you to pray, then you must persevere. God never discourages prayer. If your prayers are not helpful for this lady, He would just use them for another.

She has probably turned into a human like demonic creature. It doesn’t sound like she did good magick at all. She was obviously an evil witch. But pray for her. It is never to late to turn to God and change…
