Not home long now from mass. When we went in, the kids and I, we blessed ourselves, and Father was talking to them. He then asked me how I was, if I was doing better (he knows me so well.) And he asked if I felt ready to be confirmed THIS MAY!!! I thought I would have to wait until next year. So now tonight I am going over all the material that he has given me, to make sure I know what I need to. And because … I have been meaning to do more than I have with it.

Just curious, and I might find it later in my reading, but does an already baptized Catholic who has also done First Holy Communion and reconcilliation (and well confessesion since,) need a sponsor? If so, I should perhaps get right on that. But I cannot remember at the moment if they do or not. And confirmation names? or is that something they do with younger people?

And the Arch Bishop will be there. Terribly excited. Terribly nervous! But after the past two months I’ve had, this was one wonderful wonderful day to hear this!

I’m sorry that I have absolutely no information to help you with your questions; I just wanted to congratulate you and to remind you to revel in the bliss!

Hi,

I don’t know either! But I am really happy for you (sorry I’m not much help ha ha). I can’t wait for you to recieve this sacrament either.

God bless

Yes, you will need a sponsor. Regardless of age, it is good to have someone – at least nominally – welcome and guide you into full membership of the Christian community.

AWESOME!👍

YES Confirmation does require a Good Praticing Catholic Sponcer. WHY? To help you stay on track and close to God. 😃

God Bless you!

Pat

I was also confirmed as an adult, just because I missed receiving that sacrament due to family moves. I did have a sponsor and did choose a confirmation name.

God bless you in this step!

I know of a few people on my street that I may be able to ask to act as my sponsor. One has known me for as long as I have lived here. The other, knows of me, knows my parents and if neither happen to work out, I’ll be sure to ask Father ahead of time if something else can be done. I’m sure there would be someone in the church themselves who would be happy to help. Goodness, I’d even ask the secretary as she was a great stepping stone for me last year.

I’m so VERY excited. I hadn’t at all thought I would get to this year. I thought for sure next year. My convalidation will be put off a while longer though as my husband and I try to work through, some things. But I am at least very happy with this progress. I remember after he told me, sitting at mass, feeling like a little kid who was told they have a surprise coming! I tried to keep it down, but it bubbled up. May! What a lovely month for it. I remember as a child, when schools here were denominational, having crownings for Mary with flowers. I remember the one time I was asked to put the crown upon the statue. Ahh!

I love this.

Just need the little one to go to bed, I’ll be reading the books I was given. Taking some notes. Reading some here on Catholic Answers and … just pretty much bouncing off the walls.

I had to share it with someone who would understand my excitement. I told my family and didn’t get any sort of reaction. I’d hope they be happy, maybe they are but to them it seems like no big deal. Or it seems. I suppose I cannot really say.

Thank you SO much for the information you’ve given me. I appreciate it.

Hi,
Congradulations, in response to your first question YES, you will need a sponsor:
Can. 892 Insofar as possible, there is to be a sponsor for the person to be confirmed; the sponsor is to take care that the confirmed person behaves as a true witness of Christ and faithfully fulfills the obligations inherent in this sacrament.

Secondly, it would seem not alough when I run a Confirmation Course I encourage a Confirmation Name it is not required as you can simply ‘re-use’ your Christian Name:

I hope this helps,
May God Bless You in your preperations!
Jamie
