I just watched a fantastic movie on September 11. Not September 11, 2001, but September 11, 1683.

The movie was released in Poland last year but the actors speak English. The movie covers the life of Blessed Marco d’Aviano, Leopold of Austria, Mustafa, and Jan Sobieski during the Muslim siege of Vienna.

The acting is terrific and the costumes will blow your mind.

The movie has everything a Catholic could want–religious devotion, romance, fighting.

I don’t know why this movie hasn’t received more press, but I encourage everyone to get a copy and watch it. You won’t be sorry!

Oh yeah! I love a good battle scene in which the bad guys get their comeuppence. I was delighted when the Enterprise crew finally had a real enemy to fight in the Borg. Up until then it had all been too polite and PC. Gack! 😃
 
The Polish name of the film is Bitwa pod Wiedniem.

I have seen a number of negative reviews of the film, but most of them appeared to be politically motivated (e.g., Muslims who have negative views on the results of the battle, secularists who don’t agree with the moral absolutism of Blessed Marco d’Aviano, etc.). I decided to see it for myself so I could make up my own mind. I thought it was great. I just hope others will view it and make up their own minds rather than letting biased critics decide.

And yes, there’s nothing wrong or inconsistent with Catholics liking a good fight whether it’s St. Michael fighting Satan, St Joan of Arc fighting the English, or Don Juan of Austria fighting the Muslims. We are called to resist evil even to the point of waging a just war.
