Terrified to have children because the government might control them

See for example the story in the UK at the moment about the parents who aren’t allowed to seek medical treatment for their dying baby Alfie Evans. On the flip side there are stories of children who have gender dysphoria and the government wants to force their parents to let them have a sex change. I won’t go into all the examples but I’m sure you know what I mean: parents are losing their sovereignty over their family. I got married in 2014 before the progressive #### really hit the fan and we said we would be open to life, but do we really want to start a family in the current political climate?!

Really? People in war areas with bombs over their heads marry every day and are open to life. You are not in danger of 3 Reich eugenics or a sharia court.
Open to life is not " open to life under perfect circumstances".
I can understand you are worried, really. But please put it in a proper context.

Whatever kids are being told in school, as a caring parent, you can find out. And you still have more time to spend with your children than any public school system if you gain their trust. Things don’t have to always be disastrous. Alfie Evans is an extreme case. In theory a lot of problems can come with children. Don’t stress about all of it. Especially since from what I understand you like children and you want them.

Stop reading the click bait, fear mongering websites. Turn off the cable news-ertainment.

Christ said:

Whatsoever things are just, pure, if there be any virtue and if there be any praise think on THESE things.

How many times did he command us not to worry about tomorrow, I’ve heard that the phrase “Be Not Afraid” appears in one form or another 365 times in Scripture.

Stop reading the sensationalist news. Many of these dramatic stories have a lot more behind them besides the surface. There is no more medical treatment for Alfie Evans, only palliative care–no matter where he is.

The sex change stories that get attention don’t just involve dysmorphic children but often true “hermaphrodite” children who which to belong to the gender their parents did not choose for them. Or divoced parents where one is encouraging and the other is not. These are never, ever clear cut situations with healthy children and families.

Others are right that the news is sensational. But you are also right that the Western states are out of control and have stomped on family sovereignty. You are a slave to the state. That is unfortunate. But even slaves had children and made the best of it.

We live in the freeiest, most prosperous time in all of history. Please, save the scare tactics blogs.

I can’t buy the lightbulb I want. So, nope, not the freest times.

LOL. Really?

You’re mad because the government made it so that you can’t buy incandescent light bulbs? That’s not a civil right. They were commercialized in 1880 and banned in 2010. They are hardly a human right. Ephedra in weightloss drugs are also banned.

It is true these cases are concerning, but they are a minority. Even though Big Government has far too much influence, it is nothing like some of the political and slavery conditions that people have faced in the past. What we need is commitment to parenting, and raising our kids in a counter culture. We are free in Christ, and no earthly power can overcome His love for us and our children. When we trust in Him to be Lord of our families, we will truly be the light and salt that the world needs.

A few hundred years ago until the mid 19th century, it was in many european regions not uncommon to need the permission to marry from your “Herrschaft”, for example the owner of the land you work on, your master in a guild, your boss if you were a maid in a domestic working field. This would mean a high percentage of people weren´t at least free to marry, it´s funny that we are talking about our “unfree era” now.

So we are free so long as we are free to do that things you yourself want to do. That isn’t really freedom.
You must not have Amazon.
Cheap Chinese bulbs aren’t what I want.

Freedom hit a peak shortly after this time period. It is now on the decline. The state replaced the master and it is a far more cruel one.

I didn’t say that I won’t miss incandescent bulbs. They were cheap, didn’t have deadly chemicals and could cook a mean pancake in an EZ bake oven. However, given the alternatives, I find the ban reasonable. Probably because I own a house and LED bulbs cut our electricity consumption by about 1/3 during New England winters where we have all of 6 hours of sunlight on a good day…

Technology changes. You can’t ride a horse on a freeway. Do you have issues with that, too?

There were dozens and dozens of incandescent bulbs for sale online, name brands, and they are also sold in stores around here.

No, but you can ride a horse on a non highway.

None of that changes the fact the US government made producing them illegal. I can pick from a long list of other perfectly innocuous things besides having a lightbulb that I can’t do.

Horses were once the main mode of travel. Freeways are the most direct and often safest route. That’s an example of the law knowing more than the people who want to do the thing they think they should be able to.

There are food dyes banned in other countries that probably should be banned in the US as they are pretty conclusivly tied to cancer.

And if people in the US want something they get together and make it happen. Twinkies almost went away and people made sure they had their twinkies. You cannot blame the government in this case, but you can see what happens when people want something. In general when it came to lightbulbs people just really didn’t care.

As a parent, you control of what your child is exposed to until they can understand things. You will reinforce what the church teaches. Government was never a part of that for us aside from being a good citizen.
