How can a person tell if they are being tested or tempted? I know god does not tempt but we sure tempt ourselves a lot. Being impure. Does a test involve no temptation?

Bill

Life is full of temptations. I would say that this day and age has more temptations than at any other time in history.

Lust, desire, impure thoughts, adulterous thoughts…these can be big tests. The mind being bombarded by thoughts of this nature, to take you away from God! It happens and it is very hard to control!

Wasn’t Job tested by God who allowed satan’s temptations upon him to see if Job would curse God?

Can you please tell me why you think this day and age has more temptations than any other? Im sorry to hijack, but I keep hearing this, and it’s quite difficult to believe…

i suppose there is more access to temptation through electronic communications, what with internet porn and etc. for instance, when i was a lad, you had to go looking forn porn in unseemly places. and it was minimal and took a lot of work to find. these days, anything and everything is available at the touch of a mouse.

also, we are bombarded more than ever with advertising for stuff that we absolutely must have. i’m sure there are many more examples.

This and more!

Temptations are tests themselves. They come from 3 sources: Devil, world, the flesh.
And there can be combinations.

St. Paul had a great temptation in which he asked God to remove it. And the answer he got was that his grace was sufficient to bear it…the test.

Why the test? To test our love for him, to see if he means more to us then those things that take us away from him. It is about love.

God always loves us…in everything…especially when he allows us to be tested. For then we receive a greater degree of his life within us…we grow in his life, and we also are able to put this self denial to good work by offering it to God for someone else’s salvation…to get them the grace for a second chance.

God always loves us, in the bad things that we experience as well as the good things. It always depends on our viewpoint. For the bad things can be for our good, and the good things may be bad for us.

But in good and bad…all comes from God for our good out of his love for us.

When we read the saints, when something bad happens they say “blessed be the name of the Lord”, or some form of this. St. Teresa used to look at them as spiritual gold nuggets that God would throw her way, and she loved it for it gave her the chance to express her love for Jesus.

Everyone can do this by just asking God for the insight and strength to make it a part of his/her life. A lot of it is just remembering the point of it all.

May the God of hope fill you with every joy.
