You can Google Courage. They are a vatican-approved Catholic ministry for people with SSA. They do not require that people change orientation but they do ask that their members remain celibate. They have testimonies on their websites from people who have been helped by their ministry.

Dakota, could you please to give me the links to their testimonies? thank you

What does queer means in this context?
That’s the joke, the latter two were co-founding members of Exodus the leading ex-gay organisation* and they left to “marry” each other, guess they weren’t so ex-gay after all. Paulk on the other hand got caught while on a speaking tour at a gay bar flirting with other men.

*Exodus doesn’t preach the ex-gay line anymore
That is correct. Homosexual persons. Not queer or straight or LGBT.
Homosexual is the closest valid translation for homosexualitas so they have no reason to use anything else.

You couldn’t possibly be doubting the veracity of claims of ex-gay by people like John Paulk, Michael Bussee and Gary Cooper could you?

it uses the term homosexual though.

It depends on when and where
Of course he can dismiss their testimony. No one can EVER, EVER act outside of his world view I suppose… which is ironic in so many ways.

If someone tells me they WERE gay and they are NO LONGER gay, I accept their testimony. I don’t dismiss their personal experience and tell them they were really homosexual.

🤷

When I studied Psychology I remember reading stories about people with all kinds of weird sexual attractions (not saying homosexuals are WEIRD - that’s not my point). There were people who needed to wear diapers to enjoy themselves, people who liked trees… all sorts of odd things. With therapy and time they were able to put these attractions behind them.

So my question is, why can these sexually abnormal attractions be worked with but homosexuality is like this brand that can never, ever, EVER be removed?

Maybe if I believed people were born gay I could believe that every case of homosexuality is non-curable but there are many reasons people become attracted to the same sex (not by choice, that’s not what I’m saying).

Perhaps in the case of severe abuse there IS a cure for those involved.

I’d say the more subtle contributors that lead to SSA would be less likely to be helped.

The documents mention homosexual persons. I see nothing wrong with the term homosexual in the proper context. I do not agree with the political terms though. They are loaded terms.

Michael Bussee and Gary Cooper left Exodus to marry each other, they have ceased all association with Exodus and have harshly criticized it since. Paulk was caught flirting in a gay bar, that doesn’t sound very “ex-gay”.

Those are paraphilia, homosexuality isn’t…

Then what do you suggest to homosexual people? What should they do if their sexual orientation can never be changed?

Frequent reception of the sacraments and a life of prayer (which is actually advisable for everyone). The good news is that they aren’t tempted to marriage which is objectively inferior to celibacy thus allowing them to more intimately experience God in this life.

I have just visited Courage website. Their testimonies are very old. Are they still effective?

My point wasn’t paraphilia… but whatever.

I just refuse to believe there isn’t help for some cases of homosexuality. I don’t believe every person developed same sex attraction for the same reason and as a result I don’t believe every person should be treated the same or expected to act the same.

29 posts and no one has given the OP any links to answer her question? Come on, I know we are fond of rehashing the same discussions over and over again, but I think we can do better than that. 😉

Okay, I’ll start:

Why would a testimony only be effective if it is recent? if anything, an older testimony can mean the person had a conversion experience and maintained it for years. I would think that could be more powerful of a witness.

Non sequitur

🙂 I didn’t post any links because I didn’t know of any stories. Well, I know of ONE but he wasn’t ‘cured’ of his attraction, he just learned to work around it and is now married to a woman and quite happily so.

But people dismiss that story because… ya know… he’s living a lie or some such? 🤷 I figure if he’s happy, his wife is happy and his kids are happy, who are we to judge?

Thank you very much.

I am very appreciated.

I’m missing your point.
How long ago the testimonial was posted has nothing to do with how long it has been maintained, much could have changed since then.

The people who claim he is lying probably seriously misunderstand love and forget there is much more to intimacy than sex.

Work around is more than enough. Please give me the link if you have any. Thank you

Here are reason why I would like to have those stories.

I frequent a Catholic forum in my native language (Vietnamese). There are hot discussions around the topic of homosexuality with the participation of homosexual members. Most of them agrees with the Church teachings and the call for celibracy. However, they find it so difficult to follow that path as they are convinced that homosexual is an unchangeable condition.

As an heterosexual, I find that all further arguments would be in vain as what they need is real life testimonies which prove that homosexuality is changeable / manageable. Theoretical teachings would have very little help because they all understand what they are expected from the Church’s standpoint.

Regarding “recent” testimonies, those people are mostly young. A recent testimony of people in the same generation as them, I think, may be more convincing.

Thank you

I see. That makes sense.
