**T****exas firm first to offer ready-made embryos**
Founder says creating batches lowers cost for parents; some call it unethical

      By ROB STEIN
 Washington Post
A San Antonio company has started producing batches of ready-made embryos that single women and infertile couples can order after reviewing detailed information about the race, education, appearance, personality and other characteristics of the egg and sperm donors.

The Abraham Center of Life [sic!!], the first commercial dealer making embryos in advance for unspecified recipients, was created to help make it easier and more affordable for clients to have babies that match their preferences, according to its founder.

. . .

“We’re increasingly treating children like commodities,” said Mark Rothstein, a bioethicist at the University of Louisville. “It’s like you’re ordering a computer from Dell: You give them the specs, and they put it in the mail. I don’t think we should consider mail-order computers and other products the same way we consider children.”

Designer Babies? And the slippery slope gets steeper and steeper

The evil of this aside. Children that were born of IVF to single mothers are now asking questions as to who their fathers and natural mothers actual are. How then do you explain to an inquisitive child that they are one of a “litter” just different wombs?

GOD help us and these children.

There was a very disturbing article in the Washington Post recently. I honestly don’t know how to link to an article, but it was titled, " ‘Embryo Bank’ Stirs Ethics Fears: Firm Lets Clients Pick Among Fertilized Eggs", by Rob Stein, A01Post in The Washington Post, www.washpost.com. It was in my local paper on Jan. 6th. The Abraham Center of Life LLC, in San Antonio, Texas calls itself “the world’s first human embryo bank”. They have started “producing batches of ready-made embryos that single women and infertile couples can order after reviewing detailed information about the race, education, appearance, personality and other characteristics of the egg and sperm donors.” Sorry I don’t know how to link. Maybe someone who does can take this info & link to the article?
I just hope anyone concerned will write to their representatives. Judie Brown has written a blog about this at American Life League, which I have not yet read. I have started debating this online, & so many people think this is a great idea.

Hi, didymus, I guess I was working on posting a thread about this just as you were posting yours. I’m so glad to see someone as concerned about this as me! I’ve been discussing this online, & people don’t seem to think there is anything wrong with this. The technology is so confusing for most, too, so they don’t think this is anything different from the other inhumane technologies we already have.
I was wierded out by the name of the company, too. How much further can we slide down this steep slope before we crash?!

I just wanted to remind people to write their representatives about this, join the discussions online if you can, &, of course, pray…

How much more will this generation & the ones to follow continue to devalue life if we accept things like this? These poor babies do not have a real connection to any soul on this earth. They are conceived as products.

It’s true, but how do you get people to accept that something they have agreed with for so long is wrong? I had a “reconversion” to the Church & now I understand her teachings after a lot of research. I used to think IVF was great. How do you get non-Catholics & even Catholics to understand that it’s morally wrong?
