I can attest also that the humidity of the Gulf Coast area retards wrinkles. People can’t believe I’m 55. 👍 I’m curly-haired, so “coiffed” is a non-issue. It’s all crazy, all the time!! 😛

I haven’t seen that one but I believe that old-time Texas women were famous for big hair. (Local ladies are much more subtle, but are well-coiffed.)

I believe Kinky Friedman mentions in his book on Texas that the key to really big hair is using empty Coke cans as curlers.

The book is “Guide to Texas Etiquette: How to Get to Heaven or Hell Without Going Through Dallas Fort Worth.” I read it before we moved. It’s a good book, but there’s a large omission with regard to God, Baptists and Texas.
I have naturally big hair. No need for teasing.

How big? Dandelions envy me. 🙂

I know!

The other mystery is how to be smoking hot from 40-60. How do they do it? (I suspect the answer is–hours of toil.)

On reflection, the old school big hair look isn’t entirely dead in our area–one of the moms at school looks A LOT like Dolly Parton.
To expand on Texas women (and southern women in general)… When I was growing up… Most junior high girls had moms who:

A) sold Avon and so taught them to do their makeup
B) brought them to the Merle Norman store in the mall and they taught them how do makeup
C) put them in pageant classes to teach them how to do hair and makeup plus how to talk, walk, and smile (that involves Vaseline on your teeth, BTW)

My mom was a “B” mom.

Wow!

That explains so much.

I noticed E_7 hasn’t returned in a while. This was her thread. Hope she’s ok!

I’m wondering how you heat them. Seems dangerous.

I have naturally big curly hair. I actually put stuff in my hair to “de-volumize” it.
Presumably the Coke can ladies were sleeping on them. That sounds even worse, doesn’t it?

I love the blogger at Seraphic Singles/Edinburgh Housewife. She has big curly red hair and one of the recurring themes on her blog is what she’s doing to her hair to keep it under control. She’ll put up a picture and mention how much coconut oil it took to keep it down.

(Is there ANYTHING coconut oil can’t do?)

I forgot about the sleeping in curlers thing. (I don’t have much experience in this area. :p)

Coconut oil is amazing, but I feel like if I had that much on my head I would crave popcorn all day.

She sounded like she was going to have to come to Texas. I hope the fire ants didn’t carry her off, or the mosquitos drain her of blood.
