Actually I can more easily imagine election night riots if the President is NOT Re-elected.
The rioting may not be sincere … in the Los Angeles riots in the '90s, when it was reported that the LAPD was withdrawing from areas, there was widespread looting.
Later it was reported that street gangs broke into gun shops across the city, using the ‘riots’ as cover and stole themselves arsenals.
Another thing I remember was the press spin of the event. While being played by some of the reporters or their interviewees as a riot spurred by “rage” over the “racially controversial” verdicts of “not guilty” regarding the police being tried in the Rodney King beating trial – footage of a looting was being played, and in that case, NONE of the looters shown looked to be black (!) let alone spurred to their actions by political rage.
I’m not saying it will happen, nor hoping it will happen, but if the news comes as a surprise … as election night in 1980 was (predicted to be close, in actuality a Reagan landslide) …
I could see it in my mind.
In fact I could see a handful of protesters burning cardboard in a street somewhere being
media- hyped into a gathering place for mischief-makers until a riot ensues.
