As a nurse, I can’t even imagine why there wasn’t an internal investigation prompted the minute even one vial was found missing. Each shift we have to count drugs that are kept on a floor…even if the nurse who did the killing stole stocked meds, another nurse should have found the error.
Something really fell through the cracks at this hospital.
Nurses are definitely necessary and hospitals just as necessary. Unfortunately, this was a nurse who discarded the oath to protect life and do no harm.
When I took my Florence Nightingale pledge years ago which is the nurse version of a doctor’s Hippocratic oath…we took it seriously. I hope and pray that new nurses would do the same.
