The Most Powerful Hand [of God] Devotion is approved (very popular in Hispanic Catholic Culture), but there is also a similar Hoodoo symbol, as well as the Roman Hand of Power among a few others, so be sure you’re using the Catholic one. 🙂

The prayer should read:

“O Powerful Hand of God! I place my Christian soul before you, and in my despair and anguish, beseech you to aid me with your almighty power. At your feet I place the devotion of my sorrowful heart that I might be delivered from my suffering. May the loving kindness of your power help me and give me strength and wisdom to live in peace and happiness. Amen.”

What is odd about the pic you have is that the hand is bleeding -though that could be just an individual artist’s rendition. Below is the image from a Catholic Holy Card.

Wow! And here I thought I pretty much ‘knew it all’ in terms of Catholic devotions, guess you’re never too old to learn something new …

Thanks for sharing this with us non-Hispanic types. I love the biblical imagery of God holding us in the palm of His hand, and it looks like this devotion would fit in well with it.

In the images, who are the people depicted on the figures of the hand? I gather three of them are the Holy Family, but who are the other two? Sts Joachim and Anna?

We have a huuuuge Hispanic population here. I actually picked a votive candle of the Powerful Hand at the grocery store. 😃

Yes - The four fingers represent Joseph, Mary, and St. Joachim & St. Anne. The Christ Child is on the thumb.

On the sides are four angels who hold the tools of the crucifixion. On the left, one holds a bowl to catch Jesus’ blood, and the other holds a spear and vinegar sop as well as a hammer and nails. On the right, one holds a cross and the other holds a crown of thorns.
