You, my friend are living the parable of the Prodigal Son. There is joy in heaven this day because of YOU!!
Yes, I know that OP feeling well. I hadn’t gone to confession for 26 years before I came around. Note my sig. Reflecting on the passage was my “penance” believe it or not.

🙂

I have one issue

I am single…How am I going to abstain?

This will be torture
I was in the exact same situation when I returned after being away for some 13 years.

I had “slipped up” about a week and a half into my return to the faith. I went to confession the very next morning at 6:30 a.m because it had tormented me all night. Since then, I spend a lot of time studying the faith, both online and with books. I go to communion as frequently as possible, sometimes even being late for work for the sake of weekday Mass. My inseparable awareness of the Real Presence of our Lord in the Most Blessed Sacrament has strengthened me like you wouldn’t believe. Impurity has no hold on me anymore.

My advice (things that have helped me): Devote yourself to the Blessed Sacrament. Go to Mass as often as you can…you can even go twice on Sunday. Attend a Tridentine Mass at least once. Sometimes I go to our Novus Ordo and a Tridentine on Sundays. Pray, pray, pray. Carry a rosary with you at all times. Get a Daily Roman Missal. Find a church or chapel with Eucharistic Adoration and go when you can.

When you go to Mass tomorrow, my friend, know that you will be in the REAL AND SUBSTANTIAL PRESENCE OF OUR LORD, JESUS CHRIST. I cannot stress it enough. The bread and wine, when consecrated, are truly the BODY and BLOOD, SOUL and DIVINITY of CHRIST. Adore Him.

Welcome back. Through Jesus Christ, you can overcome any obstacle.

You can do it with God’s help!

Welcome back - your story brought tears to my eyes. I, too, had many years between confession, and I came home and cried after my first one in 25 years. Now I go about every 6 weeks, and it is wonderful!

Well, if you want motivation, think about this beforehand: the woman you defile might be the interest of a male who has a good right cross…

Seriously, this is where you need to see if you can get your annulment that you mentioned in your other thread and if you do get it you will be eligible to remarry. $500 is a small price if it allows you an option to deal with a spiritual problem. Or, remarry the ex-spouse that you are still married to in the eyes of the church.

Also, surround yourself with good Catholic friends.

…also, don’t forget to do your penance after confession. It is best to do it immediately after confession before Our Lord in the Church while you are full of gratitude and emotion.

This is something my mother ingrained in me as a child and I really feel I’ve done a good confession.

Let everyday bring you closer to God and remember to raise up the Mass for your intentions. Pray to the Holy Spirit to give you strenth.

Your sister in Christ,
Sorrows

congrat !!!👍 welcome back 😃

don’t try to do this alone.
call on our Mother to help.
a quick silent Hail Mary will bring you back when you heard Father said ‘5 Hail Marys’ at confession. it will stave off temptation.

and remember Jesus will carry you if you let Him.

I am really happy for you.

Tak

You are right. I should have said them while in Church, but I was so moved about going to confession, I forgot to. Then riding home, I was thinking. I wasnt truly absolved yet, because I didnt say the prayers. I took it slow on the way home.

Last nite, while in my bedrooom, my dog and cat laying on the bed, I got on my knees (which I havent done since I was a child) and prayed.

You see, I became a very hardened person over the years. I found it hard to submit to something I could not see, so I never prayed. I believed that praying and relying on God was a sign of weekness.

Then for the first time, I saw him. He was in my heart all these years and I never knew it. I know I am a mess. This is so different from what I am used to.

When I went to confession yesterday, I got there 45 minutes early. I sat in the very back, because I felt I wasnt worth to sit any closer. After confession, as I was leaving, I noticed I forgot to use the holy water at the door as I entered. I felt bad.

Anyways, Gonna go iron my shirt and get my goood jeans out.

This is wonderful - remember this as you go out into the world, He is in your heart always, with this knowledge will come the ability to resist that temptation. You will most likely slip but you always have Confession to bring you back!

You will start to remember all the “right” actions with time. You were raised with them, don’t be hard on yourself for forgetting something as simple as blessing yourself with Holy Water, it is a sacramental and something you can bring home too. Just bring a nice clean jar and get some holy water for your use at home.

OMG
I am already wrestling with demons. This woman called me today, who is married. She wants to come over. She is absolutely beautiful. One of my sins. She is going to call later.

What do I say? I really want to be with her, but I know this is a grave act against God. I dont know what to do or how to break it to her that I cant see her anymore.

I knew this would happen…I feel like…$^&&^

The temptation is way too much starting out with this new found feeling with Christ. Its not right…
If I do it…all I do is have to confess again, but that is wrong. Confession should not be just a way to sin…

I am so lost

Your original post in this thread was one of the best things I’ve read in weeks. Deo Gratias! (Thanks be to God) 👍 Do not fear when you fall again into sin, but just pick yourself up and enter the Confessional again. As Scripture states, the just man falls seven times daily. We all need the Sacrament of Confession on a regular basis. You are well on your way to eternal salvation again!

Remember, if you commit and sin and say “Well I’ll just confess it later. It won’t matter” then the sin of presumption is committed. Pray, pray, and pray. Life is hard but Christ’s yoke is easy; His burden is light. I fall into sin too like everyone else. But each day through prayer like the Rosary I am able to overcome temptation. The frequent use of holy water and praying the Rosary as well as the St. Michael Prayer drives away many temptations.

Do not be afraid. Jesus Christ is with you. Stay close to His heart and advoid sin. May the good Lord give you strength.

hey buddy, I have friend girls that would love to try to make me sin… I simply have to avoid them or change the subject to get them off of that. Its hard to be a single Catholic man in today’s world. We have what women want- honesty and sincerity… little do they know that trying to make us do ‘stuff’ takes us to lying and insincerity… not where we should be. Macho, tough guys are straight shooters. We need to just tell them ‘no’ and mean it. God loves us so much that he said ‘yes’ to die for us and ‘no’ to what ‘felt good.’ (ie, living and no pain). Our NO to the ‘sins of the flesh’ is a YES to God… and a Yes to those sins is a slap to God’s face and saying NO to him.

I’m giong to offer prayers for your strength right now.

Almighty God, I know there are times we all slip and say ‘no’ to you. Help our friend here to have strength to follow you and to not fall into the ways of darkness. Blessed mother, cover him with your protection. Be with him. Bless him. St. Michael, protect and defend him as well. We love you Lord Jesus. Save us and help us always. Amen.

One day at a time.

You went to confession and received absolution. You’ve done your penance.

This is a new day.

You will be tempted. You PROBABLY will sin again. We all do.

The purpose of confession is to receive the Grace to fight temptation. Grace is Armour. It’s your protection.

Life is a daily battle. We’re in a war. The evil one wants you. He thought he had you. He’ll try to get you back. God wants you more.

Fight the fight. Arm yourself with Grace through frequent reception of the Sacraments of Holy Communion and Confession. Coat yourself with His Armour. Go get it.

Don’t forget - you’re being tested. BE STRONG.

I hope that you will avoid this situation. If you actually care about her, you need to actually care about her sanctity. Adultery is a mortal sin, one that affects a lot of people. Tell yourself that you are in a state of grace, get up and out of your place and go do something else. It’s not easy, but you can do it.

What do I say?
The words to say are “We need to talk.” And from there, just whatever comes naturally.

Try to understand it from her point of view - she is going to be in shock, I think. But make sure that she also understands your point of view, as well.

Do you remember the Act of Contrition you said (probably with the help of your Priest) at the end of your Confession? What about the very last part of the Our Father “lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil”? This is a temptation for you, tell her when she calls again, straight up that you have had a conversion of heart and you don’t want to see or hear from her anymore. It might be worth changing your phone number if you have to but you are too new to this to let this temptation come at you like this.

I will pray that you have the strength to resist this temptation, remember as someone else said, take this one day at a time. Don’t put yourself in and definitely rest in the Hands of God with this, ask Him to help you. Remember again, “lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil”!

She callled my cell, I didnt answer. She called later and I said I was shining my bike. So we never hooked up.

What I need to do is just tell her its over. I cant keep lying and avoiding. I need to be straight up with her.

I know what I am doing is wrong. The 10th commandment. Keeping her on a string.
I can handle this. Whoa…I am not used to this. Normally we would be together then go about our normal lives. Not anymore.

Is there any church, or maybe a diocesan cathedral, nearby that holds weekday confession early in the morning, before your workday or even after? If you feel you are breaking the tenth commandment then you are in mortal sin. And, of course, you can’t receive Holy Communion while in the state of mortal sin. Temptation, however, is not a mortal sin. You’d know best.

You can go to confession anyway, even if you are not truly breaking the tenth commandment. Explain to the priest that temptation is your weakest point.

I don’t know if you caught my other reply to you, so I’ll say it again. Devote yourself to the Blessed Sacrament. It will make all the difference. Believe me, it did for me.

Do come forward with the woman. Its the only right thing to do. You owe it to yourself, God, and the woman. By you explaining to her your renewal of faith, and that (this) is forbidden, you may inspire her to accept God into her life.

My Jesus, truly present in the Most Blessed Sacrament in the tabernacles of the world, deliver me from temptation.

:extrahappy: YAY! CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU!:extrahappy:

:harp: Praise God from Whom all blessings flow! :harp:

Pray for the strength and resolve to end it.

Prayer and fasting help me focus on conquering specific temptations …and there are many 🙂
