Thank you all for your many prayers this past weekend as I attended a retreat for Lay Carmelites. I felt your support and it was so much appreciated. I prayed for all the intentions on this forum and prayed also for the posters on all the forums, with a special intention for those who suffer from scrupulosity.
The retreat location was quite nice. All the facilities we used (sleeping, dining, conference, and chapel) were in one building which my arthritic knees very much appreciated.
Father’s theme was “Near the Springs of Elijah.” The Carmelites look to Elijah and the Blessed Virgin Mary as our spiritual founders. The Catholic Church herself has a common and popular devotion to Mary so it’s relatively easy to relate to her. Devotion today to Elijah is much less common, though it is ancient and deep in our tradition, so we, the attendees, appreciated learning so much more about him.
I look forward to going through my notes and unpacking them by typing them out, in a way re-living my retreat. I again beg for your prayers as I present that material to my local Carmelite community over the next four months.
