I’m sorry, but it seems as if it is your own feelings and not God who is leading you to leave the Church. Who ever said that being a Christian and following Jesus was going to be easy and fun and feel good? That’s not Biblical. There are better ways to solve your problems than deny yourself the Eucharist. There is no more personal way to have a relationship with Him than in the Eucharist.
“Unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you.”
I will pray for you.

You sound like a very vibrant and interesting person who is on fire for Jesus. I am sure that you are not the only person within the Catholic Church who feels as you have said. I can understand why you are following what appears to be the bright lights of ‘Las Vegas’ to another Christian Church and I hope those bright lights aren’t empty for you in the passage of time.

It’s very thoughtful of you to say your goodbyes and I for one wish you well. It’s a pity how other people are within the Church makes you feel like you have no place to belong there. Personally I don’t feel great within my Parish, but I stay within the Church and my Parish because I know it to be the Church Jesus created for me to dwell in, even if at times it sometimes feels impossible and untenable.

Sometimes we need to go without something in order to know what it is we have had and miss it, sometimes we do without something and don’t miss it at all, that doesn’t mean it isn’t worth missing.

God Bless you on your journey in faith and may you grow closer to Jesus daily.

I hesitate to be another in a long list of people telling you you’ve made the wrong decision, but I guess you knew that would happen when you started this thread. Perhaps the reason you started it is that you have been bamboozled by the simplistic spiel of the penny-gospellers and you’re looking for us to give you reasons why you shouldn’t give in to their seductive assurances that there is a simple, easy-to-live-out pat answer to the fundamental problem of human existence. There’s not.

As for the idea that lots of noise, lots of excited young people, lots of forced bonhomie and lots of activity make their “church” better than THE Church: - by analogy, that would mean that the very best restaurant in the world is McDonalds.

. . . It was then that I learned how legalisitic it really is. I was surprised to say the least.
Please be at peace wherever you go.

but, if I may comment on the legalism, I’d say this. The Catholic Church is apostolic – it goes back to the original disciples of Christ. It’s experience and advice comes across as legalistic.

When you study the New Testament, and I hope you do, please look at how legalistic it is, in itself. It says to “stop sinning.” I don’t see any wiggle room there for anybody.

Whatever group or church you go to, don’t kid yourself. compare them as critically as you do the Catholic Church. And, you would do well to study the Early Church Fathers, to see how “ancient” and well-founded the teachings of the Catholic church are.

Be that as it may, may the Lord richly bless you.

Many people in this forum are converts to the Catholic Church from the Protestant church. We grew up w/ the Bible studies, the great kid’s programs, the warm friendships, the exciting worship, the fellowship, the great music . . . but we knew something was missing - what was missing was the Eucharist.

In an earlier post did you say that you don’t believe in the Real Presence? Have you read in this web-site’s Library the writings on the Eucharist? (I’m sure you know this, but the Library is on the home page in the left hand corner in blue). Please take the time to read the info in the Library on the Eucharist and prayerfully consider it.

Would you be willing to take some time to pray and fast and ask the Lord to teach you about what Communion with Him really is? God Bless.

I’m sure everyone knows this, but the info in the Library on the Eucharist is under the heading “Sacraments” 🙂

You might be interested to know that Rich Mullins, whom Protestants adore, had nearly completed becoming Catholic when he died.

He used to say at his concerts that he was “too chicken” to become Catholic; also his song “faith without works” and his album covers with the virgin Mary were indicators of his interest in the Catholic faith.

Several weeks ago I visited Fr. Matt McGuinness at Wichita State Universtity Newman Center, with whom Mullins had been studying. I asked him point blank, “enquiring minds want to know… is it true that Rich Mullins was to receive Holy Communion the day after he was killed?” Father said, “no, he wasn’t quite ready but he would have been within a week.”

Also you might want to hear “Top Ten Reasons for Becoming Catholic” which are on a t-shirt my wife made me wear among hordes of Protestants at a Rich Mullins concert, after which he read the whole thing, front…

and back…

Note that I did NOT wear the colander to the concert.

Four days before his last Christmas, Rich played a concert at our church, on my personal grand piano I had shipped there for the occasion. After the concert, he took this photo with our then pastor Fr. Busch (now retired) and associate pastor (Bernard Gorges, founder of Totus Tuus). I like this because here is Rich along with the tabernacle, a bit of the bottom of the cross right over his head, priests, and my son Chris in the background (he’s in college now).

I’m not telling you what you should do, but as long as we’re offering reasons to stay, you might consider why a Protestant idol such as Mullins would have joined the Church when clearly that would have totally “freaked out” a great deal of his audience. In case you haven’t heard of Rich, he is most famous as the author and recording artist for “Awesome God.”

edit>> He is also famous as the author of the song Amy Grant recorded, “Sing Your Praise to the Lord.” He was ambivalent about that, because Grant “screwed up” the song by omitting the middle section which is entirely Biblical, and Rich’s favorite part. On the other hand, he made a great deal of money off the song so he was able to buy things for himself and lots of other people.

Since the front of the shirt is not readable in the photo, here is the text:

Text on front:

10. It’s Politically Incorrect.
(Annoy the Catholic bashers).

9. You can sing badly, and no one cares.
(9 out of 10 American Catholics are musically impaired).

8. You can impress your friends.
(Tell them you belong to a militant international institution).

7. Your Mother.
(Low cost way to keep her happy).

6. Great Weddings!
(When it comes to ceremony the Catholic Church is smokin’)

**5. Great Pope!
**
**4. Saints.
**(Talk about friends in high places!)

**3. Confession
**(No, it’s not fun, but what a deal)

**2. Dependability.
(Jesus founded our Church on Peter, the rock, and promised that the gates of hell would not prevail against It).
**
And the number one reason to stay Roman Catholic is the awesome gift that no other church on earth can offer…
(Drum roll, please…)

then there’s a finger pointing toward the back.

Love that quote!! (hint: my user name)

I concur with what other posters say about staying with the Church. You’re love of God can bring life to an otherwise life-less parish. Pray upon it some more…gain some strength in the Lord…and if it does lead you back to the Church, your enthusiasm and love can be infectious!

God be with you. May your time away from the Catholic Church become an opportunity for you to grow, to grow in faith, hope and love of God and of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, to grow in the knowledge and love of Sacred Scripture, and to grow in holiness. And when you are ready for the other gifts Jesus intends for you, such as an infallible teaching authority (Ephesians 4:11-14), His Real Presence in the Eucharist (John 6:53-57), and a fellowship with believers (communion of saints) that extends beyond the confines of this earth and includes the heavenly Jerusalem (Hebrews 12:22-24), you will be most welcome to return to the Catholic Church. The Catholic Church can only benefit from people with great faith, hope and love of God and of Jesus Christ, with great knowledge and love of Scripture, and with great holiness.

I urge you to get deep into Bible study to hold firm to your convictions. Heaven rejoices at your decision.

in a church that does not weigh it’s members down with man-made rules that cannot be found in the Bible and legalism.
You have free-will and so nobody can force you to stay in the Catholic Church. But please do not insult the other Catholics on this forum with comments such as these–it is uncharitable.

May God bless you on your journey.

I had a very weak Catholic upbringing…
I think this is a common situation among those who leave the Church.
It was then that I learned how legalisitic it really is.
I hear this term a lot and I never know what this means. Were the Jews legalistic for obeying the laws given to them by God? Are Catholics legalistic for obeying the laws given to them by God? Which of God’s laws don’t you think He’s really serious about?

I prayed to be led to where God wants me. Bingo. Found it. No need to shop.
Until your first real disagreement, that is. Or maybe the music will change to a different format you don’t like. Whatever.

Mumof5,
I’m very sad by your news. I hear what you’re saying… I used to go to a very on fire for Christ Evangelical Church. You are right about all the programs… they are awesome. Church was always very interesting and entertaining. Very different from the Catholic Church.

But after awhile… it all seemed like nothing but fluff. True, I learned scriputure, and I appreciated God - but I never really felt like I encountered Him there. When I go to mass I’m with Jesus in a way that I never experienced in the Evangelical Church. I’m sorry this isn’t the case for you.

Please know that you can always come back.

May God Bless you and your children and keep you in His care.

What rules are found in the Bible, and what do you say to anybody who disagrees about whether a particular rule is found in the Bible? How will you explain to yourself the vast numbers of different (and conflicting) understandings that people have of the Bible?

Same prayer for me … now I’m in the Catholic Church. May God bless you and keep you all your days.

Thank you for the last two responses. They have resonated with me. I suppose because you can see where I’m coming from.

I had a very weak Catholic upbringing, went to a different church when older, then went back to the Catholic church. It was then that I learned how legalisitic it really is. I was surprised to say the least. I just have an increasing sense of emptiness with the Catholic church yet my heart cries out to God to praise and honour him. It is good to see my children dropping their anti-church mentality and taking up excitement on a Sunday morning.

I posted about how 5 priests had approved of me going against a major teaching of the church (only 1 held to the church position). Even the priests are apathetic. I’m not saying this in criticism, just saying where my problems lie. This isn’t the only area I’ve observed this.

I’m sure there are places where the Catholic church is thriving and vibrant. It sure isn’t here though. I’m not anti-Catholic. It’ just doesn’t seem to be where we should be right now.
Hello mumof5

I noticed that you keep basing your decision of leaving the one church that Our Lord Jesus created because of a few priest and people who you say lack the fire. I just thought that I would remind you that are merelly people (creatures) and like you they are prone to faults. We not only can not but MUST NOT base our faith on them.

You most remember that everyone even the most devote saints have felt moments of doubt, but because they knew that Jesus promised to always be with them in the one and only Church he created for all time, they did not faulter.

You mentioned that you have never believed that Our Lord is not present in the Eucharist. Well you most also remember that there were alot of others who did not believe him and therefor left him. Will you too leave him for your lack of belief?

I know it is hard to obey and it is hard to have faith but remember Jesus’ promise of never leaving. Also you also have a responisbliity to learn more about the faith on your own. Read the CC. Read about others who have left or just come back home to faith. I recomend Scott Hahn. Read the life of St Theresa of Avilia and others.

I will pray for you. And in the mean time please rediscover the beauty of the Church and how much our Lord loves us to give us such a wonderful church.

And remember we are all only human and are prone to faults. Try to look past all of this and see only the truth of the one true Church, created by God Himself!

Good Luck,

Monica

I’ve enjoyed being with you for the last year but I have decided to leave the Catholic church and get a believer’s baptism in a church that does not weigh it’s members down with man-made rules that cannot be found in the Bible and legalism. Just wanted to let you know. God is good and I have never known Him like this before.
Well, wherever you go, you might ask them to show you a Bible. If they can show you what they believe to be the Bible, then, congratulations–you’ve just come across the first man-made rule of theirs.

The books they believe make up that Bible were chosen and placed there by *men *(unless you believe that the Catholic Church was really guided by the Holy Spirit when it chose those books).

peace.

John

Please don’t leave. Look for another Catholic Church but don’t leave the One True Faith! :gopray2:
