Okay so are you saying that you are looking for aceptence? No one ever said that being Catholic would be one of world wide acceptence and we can see that it plainly isn’t. It is hard but remember life is short, and in the end we will be judge on what we did not who accepted us doing it.

Monica
That would be everyone in my family - my kids and husband and myself. Not everyone in the world because Christianity is never going to make one popular unless you’re really wishy washy.

Please understand that this acquiescence shifts responsibility for the decision even though throughout this post there has been no question as to the true originator of this decision.

OK, I’ll give you that, but if everyone was excited about going to the Catholic church and prefered it, that’s where I would be going.
The funny thing is, everyone I know who actually knows what the Church teaches and why IS excited to go to Mass.

Regardless, whatever “everyone else” is doing is irrelevant. What’s relevant is what’s true. Not “true for me,” or “your truth is my truth.” I know not everyone has the time or inclination to get deep into this stuff, (especially not a mother of five, I imagine), and the unfortunate reality of the world is that we are swayed far more powerfully by sentiment than a well-reasoned argument. I see a lot of that in your posts, and maybe I’m just a cynic, but on the scale of spectacular church experiences, the Catholic Church loses almost all the time. (If, that is, you don’t understand the miracle taking place at every single Mass.)

It sounds as though you are one of these people who the Church let down through its abominable failure to catechize properly. That you’re now looking for something more “enriching” is therefore understandable. If, through no fault of your own, you simply don’t know what it is you’re leaving, then, well, that’s that. However, I would say you definitely need to re-prioritize some things. #1, as someone said above, put worship over fellowship. It doesn’t matter how nice or welcoming anyone else is if they’re leading you into error. Seek truth, not “good times.” Ask the tough questions–“Why do you guys teach that Baptism is only a symbol, while these guys teach that it actually does something necessary?” Or, “why do you believe that faith is all that’s necessary when the Bible says ‘not by’ faith alone?”

When you start asking concrete questions rather than getting by on subjective opinion, everything falls into place. But of course, above all, pray.

OK - let’s just take care of this fellowship thing now,…

I know ONE person in this church only vaguely. And I met her the week after I went to that church in a totally unrelated context.

I expect I will get to know people but that is not why I have chosen this church.

I spoke with the Pastor who has agreed to baptise me. He will call me with a date this week. Thank you Lord.
Why do you need a Pastor to baptise you?

Almost all of your reasons for leaving our Church seem based on the flawed nature of man and not the teachings of the Church.

The fact that the Bible is a product of your Church seems lost, or ignored by you. Have you ever studied the catechism? I ask because you pointed out that you weren’t raised in the faith with a strong Catholic education. I would suggest you study it, regardless of which Church you choose.

I admire your willingness to follow God’s calling but would caution your haste.

What is your other CA user name? I would like to read some of your other posts.

I am still very curious as to why this new church is going to re-baptize you. I had a frined who entered such a Church and she had to be rebaptized becuase Catholics were not considered Christians. It is really sad-she now beleives that her parents, her siblings, everyone she went to church with for 30 years and her friends(myself included) are all going to hell unless they reject the catholic Church and become a “christian” When I am with her it is awkward as all she wants to talk about is her personal realtionship with Jesus and how much I need to be saved

I ask you this because, having admited you didnt research the doctrines of the Catholic Church very much, it makes me wonder how well you have researched the Doctrines of you new Church?. If they preach the same thing my friend was told is that something you can accept? If that is not what they are preaching why would they feel you needed to be baptized again.

BTW-I apologize if any of my posts seemed angry or confrontational.I am not “angry” but will admit to being frustrated.I have read all your posts and still am not sure why you are leavng.
I have been confrontational beucase I beleive you and your family are making a HUGE mistake.

The Bible says we will know the true followers of Jesus by their fruits. What kind of fruit have I seen?.
Your fifth child?
40.png
mumof5:
On the other hand, looking at the fruits in my life now that weren’t there before, and the fruits of those I see in my new church, there’s something there. I’ve never carried a Bible in my bag before, figured I knew it well enough to not really have to read it much. Now I do. I pray more often.I am more generous towards God and my fellow man. Can’t say it’s doing anything bad.
I’m glad you are praying more and reading the Bible. You don’t have to leave the Catholic Church in order to do that. But God didn’t ask you to be willing to carry a Bible in your bag; He asked you to carry a baby in your womb. You were generous with your fellow man when you had your fifth child–and you had some pregnancy complication that brought you almost to the point of death. You almost sacrificed your life for another. How much more generous are you now?

Mum, you have a problem with consistency on this thread. If it suits your point, you turn around and say the complete opposite.

I like going to the other church because I am tired of the apathy I find in the Catholic church, from lay people and priests alike. Why is it that other more evangelical churches are on fire for Christ while in the Catholic church, you’re lucky if you can get half the congregation kneeling when they should? Young people sitting slumped IF there are any young people at all? Not in the other church. And my children are now excited about church and learning so much. Much better than Sunday morning complaining.

I can go to a woman’s study group once a week and I can learn about the Bible. It’s solid. They are actually reaching out to the congregation. And there is a real community. People actually care if you are there or not. By the time I’d been going a few weeks I knew more people there than I did in the Catholic church because they were interested. The opportunities just weren’t there in any neighbouring parishes.

Well, that depends how you mean ‘know’. I meant know as in ‘will smile at you as you walk in the door because you have a familiar face’. Know as in, they saw you were new so turned around and said hi and introduced themselves. Couldn’t tell you their names though. Not knew as in had a friendship with them. The community at that church is very visible.

Something like mumto5. Wouldn’t let me use the same one when I had problems getting the confirmation email.

I’m getting baptised because I want a believer’s baptism. It is not only obedience, it is an outward manifestation of an inner event and a way of showing my commitment to God and to do his will. The word used for baptism in the Bible means to immerse or dip. Not sprinkle. Some may be satisfied with the baptism they received in the Catholic church and that is fine. I just don’t consider that my Catholic infant baptism is able to demonstrate my own commitment and choice to live for Christ. I understand the case for infant baptism, all my children were baptised though even then i had mixed feelings about that.

And don’t worry, I’m not going to go away anti-Catholic. Catholicism is another Christian denomination to me.

I want to apologise for this thread as I never intended this uproar to start. Just wanted to inform those I’d enjoyed chatting with. as I said, I never expected more than a handful of responses. I take it from the fact it’s still here that the moderators don’t have a problem with it but would understand if they chose to remove it. Just don’t think it hasn’t been valuable to me 🙂

Bill Clinton, is that you? Just kidding. 😉

Exactly!
Sadly, sometimes people get their ships confused. We must emphasize the worship above the fellowship.

Fellowship is good, but God comes first. 🙂
Again, your emphasis is not on worship but on being recognized by people, people turning around to say hi, recognizing you are new. None of this is emphasis on worship. The emphasis is on fellowship. As someone else mentioned, this is about you and people noticing you and people saying hi to you. Please make sure that you do take time in between meeting and greeting, seeing and being seen at your new church to take time think about God, too. I know when I got to Mass, it is most important that He sees me there.

Could someone please tell me where I said I didn’t research the doctines of the Catholic church because I don’t recall ‘admitting’ that because it’s simply not true.

Hello mumof5,

I can’t even begain to tell you how much my heart aches for you and what you are doing. I have been praying for you, but I really feel that you must not know the riches that you are leaving behind. God has given you so much and you don’t seem to see the beauty of it all. That really makes me sad. I have a brother who has done the same thing, and all I can do is pray for him. I will do the same for you.

Not true but in any case, I realise some people will not be able to see what I am trying to say from the heart because they don’t want to.

It is a shame that the Catholic churches don’t have groups I can go to during the week. I think the word I used when I spoke to my husband last night was ‘stagnant’. Maybe that’s not your experience but it is mine. I’m quite happy not to meet and greet on the Sunday but believe it or not, our spiritual feeding is important too.

How long were you Catholic? You stated that you were Protestant when your 3rd child was born. How many different faiths have you belonged to?

You didn’t think this would cause an uproar? Well, when you see a child about to cross the road and a car is coming at them…do you just sit by and watch or do you do something to stop it? Of course you do something, well, in my opinon you are making the biggest mistake of your life walking away from God’s church, you are now going to a church that Jesus did not create, the only Church created by Jesus is the Catholic church and if you really wanted proof I am more than positive everyone on this board would give it to you. I was just like you when I left the church for 3 yrs, I felt alone and that people didn’t “see me” boy…what a silly reason to leave Gods church… what the most important thing was that God was seeing me but thats another story, when you know you are in the one true Church you are willing to be there weather you ever talk to a single person and believe me…when I started getting involved and volunteering, etc. that all changed but I had to put myself out there and let people know “hey, I don’t know anyone” yes, the Catholic church is poor in that area but it is still the only true church and sadly your fooling yourself thinking that any church out side the Catholic church is the Church God wants you in, that is why we are upset, we see you walking away from Gods church and telling yourself that any old church will do and we know better so we are agonizing over it, it is the saddest thing I’ve seen when someone walks away from God and tells themself it doesn’t matter, I feel really sorry for you. 😦

There are groups infact I am going to one now in ten minutes its a book club. I also atend a moms group that is held during the day. I also go to a wonderful bible study, (Jeff Cavins the Great Adventure 👍 ) not to mention the weekly rosary group. And that is not even close to the groups provided.

Maybe you need to look more inot some of these groups,

Went to Catholic Schools all my life. Didn’t go to church for a while, got married in the Presbytarian church (though never attended one, it was just the denomination my husband was raised), attended Baptist church, came back to the Catholic church and have attended for six years, now at the Apostolic… like I say, not fussed on denomination

This time, I said, OK, I need you, show me the way you want me to go and where I can serve and glorify you. And I didn’t have to lift a finger. The way was made clear for me because for the first time, I let Jesus do the work for me and guide me. I totally put ME out of it.
You must have missed this question the first time around, so I’ll put it forth once more; what leads you to believe that you are obeying God by doing this?

Because, truth be told, it is more than obvious that you are doing precisely what you wish to do and calling it “the will of God.” This is evident by the harsh words you’ve had for the Church and the contradictions inherent in your accusations.

You’ve professed, for instance, a good knowledge of the Catechism and yet put forth ridiculous arguments about predestination and Purgatory being some invention of the Church for financial purposes.

If you go through with it, understand at least that your claim to knowing what the Church teaches is nonsense.
