Go spend a week in the church and watch. Candles are lite, flowers at the feet of them, we bless them hello. I saw many weddings where flowers were placed by the bride and groom after the sermon to a statue and they kneel before it? Hello what church are you going to?
So is it your position that they think these statues are God, or gods, or saints? Yes or no? Why is thinking “I love you, Lord” OK but putting candles and flowers as a sign of love is not?

**
Catholics brethren on this thread. Do any of you?**
No, and quite honestly I am having a very difficult time understanding how anyone who says they are Catholic believes we Idolize statues.
I have never not once thought of them in that way the idea just never entered my mind. No other Catholic than I know thinks that way. Call me naive it just sounds so absurd to me that any Catholic would think that way!

Two words in support of the Catholic position substantiated in the Old Testament:

Bronze Serpent

Come on now, this is for the people claiming to never see people bowing before, lighting candles, or praying before statues in the Catholic Church:

To be fair, do you think they’re worshipping the statue itself? Or are they praying to Mary who is depicted by the statue?

If you carry a photograph of your spouse in your wallet, and you take it out from time to time and kiss it, are you worshipping the photo?

I have not seen anyone on this thread claiming to deny having seen any of those things.
Your arguments are really inane, I am failing to see what it is you do not understand. When you are told over and over again that when people are lighting candles,ETC they are not idolizing the statues. I think it is rather arrogant of you to label people idol worshippers on your say so.
The Little Flower is my favorite Saint, I light candles at her statue, I say a prayer. In being raised Catholic it was never told to me that I was actually praying to a staue. Like I said I question anyone who says they are Catholic thinking we do.

Right, before statues, not to statues. You seem almost obsessed to find idolatry in Catholic piety (and only in Catholic piety). You seem determined to judge Catholic minds, which you cannot know, with the utmost harshness. When you should be rejoicing to see people praying to God.

So, is this idolatry? (I already know your answer :))

This?

Nice sermon…irrelevant to the thread topic and even to me. 🤷
Ill go one step further… I think it was mean spirited.

I dont worship idols. I light candles in front of statues as a symbol of my request to that saint for intercessions to Christ on my behalf.

I get the feeling this person has alot of anger against the RCC as a whole. I’ll light a candle… and I mean that!

I found that last bolded sentence to be so re-gosh-darn-diculous that I think we need to start a new thread on this elsewhere. So that is what I did:

Thoughts fellow Catholics?
O you left a church and now spent all your free time telling other catholics how wronge we are sweet.Whats a image?A catholic image helps place person in a paryer mode.So its a good thing.Catholics are not percect. We always have to be on watch for our EGOs which means Easing,God ,Out EGO

A SimpleSinner, isn’t the one who was making negative comments about Catholicism, He was posting what lukewarm wrote:)

Yeah, he was quoting Lukewarm who is no longer with us.

Do you really think people confuse the statue with Our Lord and Savior? Do you honestly think if you asked them, they would not know the difference between the statue and God?
The same things happened in Exodus…

And he received them at their hand, and fashioned it with a graving tool, after he had made it a molten calf: and they said, These be thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt. And when Aaron saw it, he built an altar before it; and Aaron made proclamation, and said, To morrow is a feast to the LORD. And they rose up early on the morrow, and offered burnt offerings, and brought peace offerings; and the people sat down to eat and to drink, and rose up to play. And the LORD said unto Moses, Go, get thee down; for thy people, which thou broughtest out of the land of Egypt, have corrupted themselves: They have turned aside quickly out of the way which I commanded them: they have made them a molten calf, and have worshipped it, and have sacrificed thereunto, and said, These be thy gods, O Israel, which have brought thee up out of the land of Egypt. (Exodus 32:4-8 KJV)

Possibly he only intended to make them some symbolical representation of the Divine power and energy, that might be as evident to them as the pillar of cloud and fire had been, and to which God might attach an always present energy and influence; or in requiring them to sacrifice their ornaments, he might have supposed they would have desisted from urging their request: but all this is mere conjecture, with very little probability to support it. It must however be granted that Aaron does not appear to have even designed a worship that should supersede the worship of the Most High; hence we find him making proclamation, To-morrow is a feast to the LORD, and we find farther that some of the proper rites of the true worship were observed on this occasion, for they brought burnt-offerings and peace-offerings, Ex 32:6,7: hence it is evident he intended that the true God should be the object of their worship, though he permitted and even encouraged them to offer this worship through an idolatrous medium, the molten calf.

Ultimately…

I am the LORD: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images. (Isaiah 42:8 KJV)

God is not a sharer of His glory with any image or earthly thing.

But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. (John 4:23-24 KJV)

I do not have a picture of it but you may have seen the Pope bow down to a statue of Mary at times. This is in violation to the commandments of God.

Exactly spoken truth that is the Word of God! The hour has come, and is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in Spirit and in truth: Is this not simple to under stand? and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth!
Is that hard to understand! Who dare create an molten image of a divine God and think that this is pleasing or acceptable when God created the heavens the earth all things!Who has seen God to do such an abomination, not even Moses or the Holy prophets or Jesus did such abominable thing, did they? Whorship God!

I don’t have a picture of it but you may have seen non-Catholic Christians bowing down to a paster/preacher/etc… This is in violation to the commandments of God…

Exactly, when when celebrate our Dear Mother which also has been done in Rome and in our own churches we carry a molten image of Mary in parades etra! People touch it kiss it extra. Is this any different in what St. Paul said in Antioch about their molten statue of Diana, whom they thought was their god not to do that? Whether it is Diana or our Dear Blessed Mother it is an abomination to do so. St. Paul beware of idols! God knows what we were going to do before we did it, are we not such as rebellious as in the time of Moses when God destroyed that day 23,000 people died?

The commandment not to carve any molten image of man or woman or bird etc. God does not change. He is the same to day as yesterday. the begin and the end. The bible is one book. It has a beginning and and end, the Revelations!

Whether we change the commandments around, even Jesus said: what did Moses tell you on “Mount Horeb”. Moses also warn to this to heart for this is your very life. For when Moses read it out loud to the Israelities, it bore witness before the heavens and earth. As God commanded him to do. Jesus did not come to change one tittle of the law, he told us that. And if we "truly believe and accept Jesus word then do what he says!

Jesus also said the “time for such ignorance as ended”. Remember Moses and Elijah met with Jesus on the Mount. Peter, James and John bore witness to that. God is not a dead God, but the living eternal God of Abraham,. Issac and Jacob. God is all seeing and all knowing. Kneel in his present and worship him talk to him, he hears you!

God Bless
