The prayers are really for both…I thought you were suppose to say them right after Communion Because my book of prayers say to pray them “after receiving” so I do.I didn’t know they meant after Mass
The official stand of the Catholic Church has an or: “The faithful are to be recommended not to omit to make a proper thanksgiving* after Communion*. They may do this *during the celebration *with a period of silence, with a hymn, psalm or other song of praise, or also after the celebration, if possible by staying behind to pray for a suitable time” (Inaestimabile Donum, 17).
So we have (1) after Communion (AC), or (2) after the celebration of the Mass (AM)
Even the saints and church leaders in the article say different things:
Teresa - AM
Alphonsus - AC / also AM (“so long as the sacramental species lasts”)
Chrysostom - AC
Baltimore - AC/ also AM (“as long as the appearance of bread and wine remains”)
Cardinal Arinze - AM (10 minutes)
Benedict XVI- AC
Francis Sales - AM?
Neri - AM or AC
Padre Pio - AM (When Mass was over )
Luis de Montfort - AC and AM (hour of Thanksgiving )
Josemaria - AC or AM because “10 minutes to say thanks” after receiving
So the key is really Baltimore’s “as long as the appearance of bread and wine remains” in the body, which as somebody said is 10-15 minutes after reception. So it all depends on the time gap between actual receiving and end of the mass.
And yes, what is most important is the disposition, the fervor…
