For the first time in almost a decade
I have completed a week’s physical labour
in my home garden, with minimal pain.
(doesn’t sound like much I know, but I would
normally be suffering intense full body cramping,
joint and bone pain after working for half an hour,
and that would cause other problems lasting for days).
So for all of you faithful followers of God everywhere,
who pray and hope for an end to all suffering.
I would like to offer this small thank you.

Dear Lord,
by allowing me to experience this affliction,
so that I may share in your suffering on the cross for sin,
you take a sublime chance that I might either draw closer to you for comfort,
or turn away from you in my misery.
O my Saviour, grant me that precious grace to offer up my pain,
as you did in Your Passion, to atone for sin.
Help me to imitate your patience and to turn my complaints
into offerings for my sins or for those of others, as you see fit.
In this time of distress and pain,
I ask, I seek, and I knock, for the grace of endurance,
perseverance, and above all, trustful submission to Your Divine will,
for my good and your glory.

I beg forgiveness for stumbling at times
under the weight of your most splendid gift,
I now ask of You Lord, special gifts of love, mercy
and good council be given to all those in this world
who have, through prayer, kindness
and their love of neighbour, helped
take the weight of my cross and
that of all others who suffer.

These glorious souls walk in the shadow of Simon of Cyrene
and do his memory great honour.
I pray Lord that they all receive in their hour of need,
the sweet relief, support, charity and love
that they themselves gifted to their fellow man.
Amen.

Saint Michael, the archangel, defend us in battle, be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil, may God rebuke him, we humbly pray. And do you, O’ Prince of the Heavenly host, by the power of God thrust into Hell Satan and all the other evil spirits who prowl about the world for the ruin of souls.

Amen.

†

Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Amen.

†

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.

Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.

Amen.

Acordaos (Memorare)
Acordaos, ¡oh piadosísima Virgen María!,
que jamás se ha oído decir
que ninguno de los que han acudido
a vuestra protección,
implorando vuestro auxilio,
antes bien, escuchadlas
y acogedlas benignamente.

Que allí donde haya odio, ponga yo amor;
Donde haya ofensa, ponga perdón;
Donde haya discordia, ponga unión;
Donde haya error, ponga verdad;
Donde haya duda, ponga fe;
Donde haya desesperación, ponga esperanza;
Donde haya tinieblas, ponga vuestra luz;
Donde haya tristeza, ponga yo alegría.

¡Oh, maestro!
Que no me empeñe tanto
en ser consolado como en consolar;
en ser comprendido como en comprender;
en ser amado como en amar,
pues dando, se recibe,
olvidando, se encuentra,
perdonando, se es perdonado,
muriendo, se resucita a la vida eterna.

Hail Holy Queen**
Hail, Holy Queen,
Mother of Mercy,
hail our life, our sweetness and our hope!
To thee do we cry
poor banished children of Eve;
to thee do we send up our sighs,
mourning and weeping
in this vale of tears.
Turn then,
O most gracious advocate,
thine eyes of mercy towards us
and after this our exile
show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb,
Jesus;
O clement,
O loving,
O sweet Virgin Mary.
V. Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God.
R. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Prayer to Saint Michael the Archangel
St Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle;
be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the Devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray
and do thou, O prince of the heavenly host,
by the power of God,
thrust into Hell Satan
and all the other evil spirits
who prowl about the world
seeking the ruin of souls.
Amen.

The Memorare
Remember,
O most gracious Virgin Mary,
that never was it known,
that anyone who fled to thy protection,
implored thy help
or sought thy intercession,
was left unaided.
Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee,
O Virgin of virgins, my Mother.
To thee I come, before thee I stand,
sinful and sorrowful.
O Mother of the Word Incarnate,
despise not my petition,
but in thy mercy hear and answer me.
Amen.

Come, Holy Spirit
Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of Thy faithful
and enkindle in them the fire of Thy love.
V. Send forth Thy Spirit and they shall be created.
R. And Thou shalt renew the face of the earth.
Let us pray. O God, Who didst instruct the hearts of the faithful
……by the light of the Holy Spirit, grant us in the same Spirit
……to be truly wise, and ever to rejoice in His consolation.
Through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Road Ahead
"My Lord God, I have no idea where I am going.
I do not see the road ahead of me.
I cannot know for certain where it will end.
Nor do I really know myself, and the fact that I think I am following your will does not mean that I am actually doing so.
But I believe that the desire to please you does in fact please you.
And I hope I have that desire in all that I am doing.
I hope that I will never do anything apart from that desire.
And I know that if I do this you will lead me by the right road,
……though I may know nothing about it.
Therefore I will trust you always though I may seem to be lost
……and in the shadow of death. I will not fear,
……for you are ever with me, and you will never leave me
……to face my perils alone.
