What is funny about saying a female is not much use without an attractive face?
I think it was more tongue in cheek.

However, you do have a point. Females are judged first by their physical attractiveness. I get that.

A spiritual leader that speaks tongue in cheek? I guess I am not used to that.
 
The overriding emphasis upon our visual image never stops seeming bizarre to me, but it must seem a thousand times weirder to the Dalai Lama. Television hadn’t even been invented when he was a kid, and now he’s living in a world where ones onscreen charisma is the deciding factor in what defines our humanity. And of course it’s only going to get worse as time marches on and people become even stupider in the future than they are today. So His Holiness is actually entirely correct, from the jaundiced perspective I just described. 🤷
