Hello everyone. I am a 16 year old girl and my relationship with God on a scale on 1 to 10 is ranked as 6. I frequently go to youth group and I have friends that have this joy about them. It’s something that I cannot describe and I know it’s something divine and it comes from having a strong relationship with God. It’s like they’re so cool with life and they accept whatever comes their way. It causes them to show confidence within themselves. I admire that about them and I wonder how I can receive this joy too. I guess I really know how to, however, many life circumstances are preventing me from obtaining this “joy”. I was verbally abused by my mother and I still am to this day. I am suffering the ramifications (for example, self confidence issues) of this and it’s affecting me to be the person that I can be. I feel like the only way of obtaining this joy is to break away and go to university somewhere far away, which I plan to do so, so that I can reflect on my own self and not be influenced by the verbal abuse. I just want you all to pray for me please that I get through this.

Breaking away is a vital part of overcoming any abuse. However, do try and locate a good counselor at school or the local parish. You will be surprised how leaving behind negative behaviors, attitudes and environments can actually make you feel lost! If you are used to abuse and violence it is hard to know what to do with peace and quiet! Been there and have done it.

So do make plans for college or what ever you would like, but do it with the guidance of good career counselors, academic counselors and personal counseling. They can help you identify your own behaviors and thinking you need to change, ways to cope with the changes of moving and being on your own, and even rediscovering what you “want to be when you grow up.”

Take one day at a time, be honest about yourself and focus on becoming more optimistic and realistic within the context of the life you want to live. The joy will come one day at a time, one success at a time. It is not a sudden thing. It takes work and self discovery.

Peace and All Good!

I will certainly pray for you 🙂

:blessyou:

The joy that comes from a strong relationship with God is wonderful. Be aware, though, that your friends have their own spiritual struggles and hard times; you may just not be able to see them.
